TVLine Shares Its 2020 Wish List
A new year of television is almost upon us, and Team TVLine has a few hopes for what the small screen might deliver in 2020. Scroll down to see our TV wish list for the upcoming year, then tell us which of our wishes line up with yours!
9-1-1-lone-star-spinoff
Andy Swift's Wish:
That 9-1-1: Lone Star carries on its predecessor's legacy of balancing insanity (shark on the highway!) and heart.
CHLOE BENNET, HENRY SIMMONS, ELIZABETH HENSTRIDGE
Matt Webb Mitovich's Wish:
That Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. — after a season set in drab, gray outer space followed by one involving zombifying extraterrestrials — wrap its seven-season run with a lighter, brighter, timey-wimey adventure replete with fun costuming and anachronisms. Oh, and that FitzSimmons ends up truly and forever together, in the very end. Don't Whedon us!
atlanta-season-3
Dave Nemetz's Wish:
That the upcoming third season of Atlanta and fourth season of Fargo are worth the agonizingly long wait. Atlanta has been off the air for more than a year, and Fargo more than two now — but based on the stellar track records of these two FX gems, I'm fully expecting a triumphant return on both counts.
Big Brother
Nick Caruso's Wish:
That Big Brother goes back to casting serious game players rather than aspiring influencers and dating show wannabes. We don't want six showmances per season; we need the next Danielle Reyes and Dan Gheesling.
falcon-winter-soldier-series
Matt Webb Mitovich's Wish:
That Disney+'s upcoming Marvel series, starting with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (in Fall 2020), are as breezy, smart and enjoyable as the streaming service's flagship live-action offering, The Mandalorian. (Just don't bend over backwards to pit Baby Groot vs. Baby Yoda. That'd be shameless.)
130736_6126
Dave Nemetz's Wish:
That the long-awaited, much-discussed and highly anticipated (at least by me) Happy Endings revival actually comes to fruition this year. I don't even need a full multi-episode revival. Just a one-off special would be ah-mah-zing at this point. Or even just a reunion sketch. Anything.
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert
Ryan Schwartz's Wish:
That some network (or streaming platform) manages to convince Jon Stewart to host a new, limited-run political commentary show in the lead-up to November. His occasional Late Show desk pieces are just not enough!
lizzie-mcguire-revival-lalaine
Andy Swift's Wish:
That Disney+ convinces Lalaine to return for the Lizzie McGuire revival. #JusticeForMiranda
millie-bobby-brown-dirty-dancing
Michael Ausiello's Wish:
That Millie Bobby Brown's recent, eerily spot-on social media cameo as Baby Houseman signals a big Dirty Dancing-themed subplot in Stranger Things Season 4.
Crazy Hair and a Teeny Tiny Part of Canada
Ryan Schwartz's Wish:
That CBS announces the already renewed Mom will end after Season 8, thus affording its critically acclaimed sitcom — which is already a bit long in the tooth — the chance to bow out with some dignity.

Rebecca Iannucci's Wish:
That the Mystery Science Theater 3000 revival, which was axed at Netflix after two seasons, finds a new home elsewhere. These new episodes — particularly the show's take on Mac and Me — have brought me more joy than most recent TV comedies, and I'm not ready to let them go.
netflix-weekly-episodes
Rebecca Iannucci's Wish:
That Netflix finally embraces the weekly episode rollout strategy employed by other streaming services. It's not just that I feel overwhelmed by full-season drops (though I definitely do); weekly installments have also helped other streaming series, such as The Mandalorian, generate and keep buzz.
2017 Jingle Ball - Los Angeles - Arrivals, Inglewood, USA - 01 Dec 2017
Nick Caruso's Wish:
That Sarah Michelle Gellar's Other People's Houses and Sometimes I Lie both get series orders and become smashing successes. I'll never stop rooting for her.
sexual-misconduct-tv-industry
Matt Webb Mitovich's Wish:
That in the wake of so many painful and upsetting allegations of on-set and behind-the-scenes sexual harassment and impropriety, some sort of regulated, industry-wide process is put in place to monitor and safely report such behavior. (Copy-and-pasted from last year.)
Saturday Night Live - Season 44
Ryan Schwartz's Wish:
That Saturday Night Live does away with Alec Baldwin (who's been phoning it in for quite some time now) and recasts Donald Trump in the lead-up to the presidential election — preferably with an actual cast member.
Star Trek: Picard
Kimberly Roots' Wish:
That CBS All Access' Star Trek: Picard is fresh and different enough to keep Patrick Stewart interested in a long-term mission, but that it also contains a ton of loving Next Generation callbacks to keep old Trekkers like myself happy. (Anyone else cry happy tears at that promo with Will Riker? Anyone?)
Just Go For It
Nick Caruso's Wish:
That the return of Survivor's Edge of Extinction twist — which delivered one of the most controversial winners to date — doesn't tarnish next season's Winners at War. We can't have another pre-merge boot swoop in on Day 35 and snag the crown!
The Blacklist - Season 6
Rebecca Iannucci's Wish:
That The Blacklist gives us real, solid, not-going-to-be-reversed-next-season answers about Red's real identity before Season 7 wraps up.
the-mandalorian-helmet
Kimberly Roots' Wish:
That The Mandalorian takes his helmet off in Season 2... but only for a really good reason and only in a way that jives with what we know of the headwear's significance.
the-mandalorian-mask
Michael Ausiello's Wish:
That Mandalorian leaves its titular character's helmet on in Season 2 (and beyond) because it's an audacious, convention-obliterating conceit and it tracks narratively and it's not not kinda-sorta sexy.
This Is Us - Season 3
Kimberly Roots' Wish:
That This Is Us shows us only brief snippets of Rebecca's decline: As someone who has watched a family member suffer from and eventually succumb to Alzheimer's disease, I don't think my heart can take it.
younger-josh-charles-love-triangle
Andy Swift's Wish:
That Younger finally puts an end to the Josh/Charles madness in Season 7, freeing Liza from her seasons-long romantic purgatory.
zendaya-euphoria
Dave Nemetz's Wish:
That the Emmys recognize Zendaya's stunning lead performance as drug-addled teen Rue on HBO's Euphoria, after snubs from the Golden Globes and the SAG Awards. This is one of the best performances anywhere on TV — funny, vulnerable, achingly real — and, if you'll pardon the pun, it's high time she got recognized for it.
zola-hallmark-channel-commercials
Michael Ausiello's Wish:
That the embattled Hallmark Channel puts its money where its mouth is inclusion-wise and features an LGBTQ couple at the center of one of its holiday movies.
Chicago Fire - Season 7
Vlada Gelman's Wish:
That Chicago Fire continues to slow-play any potential romance between Casey and Brett, because it is the sweetest form of torture.
party-of-five-reboot
Vlada Gelman's Wish:
That one of the original Party of Five cast members stops by Freeform's upcoming reboot. Preferably as a Salinger, but I'll settle for a new character, too.
Atomic Monsters
Vlada Gelman's Wish:
That Supernatural delivers a satisfying series finale that doesn't end with Dean and/or Sam dead. Gotta leave the door open for that inevitable revival!
