TV Characters We Miss

From Cristina Yang on Grey's Anatomy to Elliot Stabler on Law & Order: SVU, Team TVLine is taking stock of 13 shows desperately in need of a reunion:

1. mom-violet-roscoe-returning

Violet and Roscoe Plunkett, Mom

While there's no denying that the Anna Faris/Alison Janney comedy improved when the focus shifted to the AA group, it continues to rub us the wrong way that Christy's kids are never shown, even though they haven't been retconned. While we can accept the notion that Violet wants nothing to do with Christy, whose demons were present throughout her childhood, we just can't get over never seeing the teenage Roscoe, who was already said to be experimenting with drugs and alcohol when we last saw him in Season 4.

2. greys-anatomy-cristina-returning

Cristina Yang, Grey's Anatomy

So much more than just Meredith's "person," Sandra Oh's MD was the show's beating heart, albeit one encased in a thick layer of cynicism and bluntness. We're grateful that Yang continues to maintain an active off screen presence — and even drives the occasional plot, as when she recently gifted Mer with "McWidow" — but it's not enough. It will never be enough.

3. brooklyn-nine-nine-gina-returning

Gina Linetti, Brooklyn Nine-Nine

Although Gina Linetti (Chelsea Peretti) left the Nine-Nine to pursue other opportunities and raise her daughter, Enigma, we'll never stop missing her inflated sense of self and brash personality. While the show's ensemble continues to slay — and Peretti did return for a guest-spot after her exit — we'll always miss the character's king-sized ego and penchant for busting chops. Fingers crossed we haven't seen the last of Linetti.

4. fear-the-walking-dead-madison-returning

Madison Clark, Fear the Walking Dead

Though we're down with the Walking Dead spinoff's altruistic newish tone, we have noticed that the show has lacked edge since dropping Kim Dickens' character, who was the kind of badass who could subdue a psycho with a soup spoon to the eye. And it bears mentioning that, although the heroine certainly looked doomed back in Season 4, we never actually saw any of the walkers at the baseball stadium "strike her out," so to speak.

5. supergirl-mon-el-returning

Mon-El, Supergirl

Mon-El's brief return in Supergirl's 100th episode was a total tease, giving us a temporary fix of that undeniable Chris Wood/Melissa Benoist chemistry before sending the former Prince of Daxam back to the future. Maybe it's because the real-life married couple just announced that they're expecting their first child, or maybe it's because the show's current situation with Kara and William feels so forced, but we're feeling super nostalgic for Season 2.

6. legacies-penelope-returning

Penelope Park, Legacies

Given the dark transformation Josie has undergone since Penelope left the Salvatore School in Season 1, we're not even sure how the estranged exes would receive one another, but the time feels right for their long-overdue reunion — and not just because Landon and Hope are officially back together.

7. walking-dead-rick-returning

Rick Grimes, The Walking Dead

We know, we know — Rick's story is going to continue on the big screen. But it's on the small screen that Andrew Lincoln's character is really needed. Since the AMC drama's primary protagonist was "killed" in Season 9, the show has wandered as aimlessly as a newly-turned walker. Plus, Judith and R.J. deserve to get to know the father who in their minds is as much a myth as a man.

8. agents-of-shield-bobbi-hunter-returning

Bobbi Morse and Lance Hunter, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

The "spy's goodbye" that ushered her and partner/partner Lancer Hunter off the canvas midway through Season 3 still feels so fresh. With the ABC series set to fire up its swan song this summer — and keeping in mind we saw Lance for a moment in Season 5 — it'd be great to see Mockingbird fly one last time.

9. dynasty-steven-returning

Steven Carrington, Dynasty

With Fallon planning her wedding, Sam back on the market, and Cristal formally waging war on Alexis, now would be the perfect time for Steven to return as a pawn — or perhaps a power player — in his family's twisted games. And if original actor James MacKay isn't on board, we'd be open to another classic Dynasty recast.

10. ncis-ziva-returning

Ziva David, NCIS

We know, she was just back as recently as January. But having her back for that handful of episodes spread across eight months reminded us of how good it was to have the "ninja" around, revisiting her repartee with Gibbs as well as establishing new dynamics with the likes of "new kids" Nick and Bishop.

11. chicago-pd-antonio-returning

Antonio Dawson, Chicago P.D.

With mostly young detectives and rookies now under Voight's charge in the Intelligence unit, Antonio's absence is more apparent than ever. As someone with a certain level of seniority, Antonio could challenge Voight's questionable tactics, even if he did lose some of his moral high ground when he developed a drug addiction.

12. chicago-med-connor-returning

Connor Rhodes, Chicago Med

Colin Donnell's character only left the Windy City at the start of this season — but it's not too early to bring the doc back, if you ask us, because the hospital is definitely not the same without him.

13. law-order-svu-stabler-returning

Elliot Stabler, Law & Order: SVU

Now that the NBC procedural is in its 21st season, and Olivia Benson has more than earned her place as the squad's sure-footed leader, what better time to bring back her much-missed partner from the early days? Stabler's reappearance could show how far she's come as a cop and highlight how much their relationship (in whatever interpretation of the word you prefer) may or may not change under these new circumstances. Plus, we wouldn't mind seeing how El would mix it up with characters like Rollins, Carisi and Kat — all of whom joined the department after his departure.
