'The Voice' Season 9, Top 12 — Ranked!

The Voice - Season 9

Began slightly under the radar thanks to a one-chair turn and a montaged Battle Round — but with his tasteful song selections, rich tone and pitch perfection, he's rapidly gaining momentum. In fact, we'd say his Live Playoffs "Say You Love Me" was the performance of the season — and you know how reality singing fans love a growth arc.

The Voice - Season 9

Pulled a shocking upset in the Knockout Rounds when her breathtaking "Case of You" prompted her coach to choose her over the well-hyped Amy Vachal. An emotional, delicately delivered Fleetwood Mac cover in the Live Playoffs showed she's not a one-hit wonder.

The Voice - Season 9

No contestant this season has gotten more NBC hype — or praise from the coaches — than this Kentucky-born kid with a monster range and enviable control. "Halo" went all the way to No. 3 on iTunes, but his upper register can get a little shrieky (see "Set Fire to the Rain") and his stage presence could use a little extra "oomph," too. Could easily win it all — but might also represent a case of peaking too early in the competition.

The Voice - Season 9

Came out of nowhere with gyrating hips, excellent vocals and A+ showmanship on "Brand New Girlfriend" — bumping several highly rated vocalists right out of the Top 12. The big question now is, was that an isolated case of the right song at the exact right moment, or is Zach emerging as a serious Team Blake contender? We're betting on the latter.

The Voice - Season 9

Her Blind Audition to "Stars" proved she's got as much raw talent as anyone in the competition, but Adam needs to start polishing this gem a little faster if she's going to reach her full potential. "You're No Good" was the right fit for her muscular tone, but still needs lessons in the power of dynamics and the importance of lyrical connection.

The Voice - Season 9

We've seen solid-if-not-entirely-spectacular country singers go verrrry far in this competition before, and with his rugged good looks and unique backstory, Barrett could do the same. We'd like to suggest more out-of-left-field song choices to stretch his artistic range, but won't hold our breaths for anything edgier than "I Drive Your Truck."

The Voice - Season 9

Despite some obvious tuning issues in her live performance, she blew up the iTunes singles chart with her take on the hymn "In the Garden" — and yet somehow didn't get enough online votes to avoid needing Blake's sole Playoffs save. Owns a lovely, lilting instrument — but may not have enough of a fanbase to overcome any further snafus or ho-hum song picks.

The Voice - Season 9

Blue-eyed soulster went back to the Stevie Wonder well with a solid "Overjoyed" and sailed into the Top 12 as a result. As noted by Blake and Gwen, though, he'll need to work on his sometimes stiff body language — and prove he can also excel with more current tracks — if he wants to stick around.

The Voice - Season 9

Her slinky, throwback-jazz style sets her apart from everybody in the competition — and at her best (i.e. "Dream a Little Dream of Me") she's really damn good. Her Live Playoffs rendition of "The Way You Look Tonight," however, was plagued by breath-control issues and a lack of necessary swagger and raised the question if she's got anything new or vital to bring to the classics.

The Voice - Season 9

He's the funkiest fella in Season 9 — and has proven he can move and groove on the stage without sacrificing his vocals. That said, he can come off as a tad corny when he brings his trademark drama to slower jams (i.e. "Stand By Me") — and he needed Pharrell's Save to crack the Top 12. Needs a breakout Top 12 moment to remind viewers why he was the first four-chair turn this cycle.

The Voice - Season 9

Let's be honest: She got Gwen's save based on her haunting rendition of "Samson" back in the Battle Rounds, not her disappointingly tepid "Adia" in the Live Playoffs. Gwen should probably just surrender to the quirk, let Korin be Korin (glasses and all) and hope for the best.

The Voice - Season 9

His voice repeatedly disappeared on him during an atrocious rendition of "Everything I Own," but apparently the voters who threatened to ruin American Idol with their "Aww! It's a cute teen boy!" fascination have migrated to NBC's reality singing competition. Heaven help us all if they can't be stopped!
