Supernatural/Scooby-Doo Crossover: Best Moments

The episode opens mid-fight, with Dean and Sam battling a giant, evil plushie dinosaur, perfectly setting the tone for the hour.

After the boys are zapped into the cartoon world, Dean tries to slap a freaked-out Sam back to reality, giving us this amazing visual.

Nobody leaves Baby out of the crossover! There's no real explanation for how the beloved car got transported into the 'toon — and we don't care. 

Dean's monologue about why he loves and relates to Scooby-Doo so much is actually kind of sweet and spot-on: "Growing up on the road, no matter where Dad dragged us, no matter what we did, there was always a TV. And you know what was always on that TV? Scooby and the gang. These guys, they're our freakin' role models, man — except Fred. He's a wad. Just think about it: We do the same thing. We go to spooky places, we solve mysteries, we fight ghosts."

Sam's not so convinced that he and his brother are just like the Scooby gang, especially since their ghosts are real and they don't have a talking dog. Dean's response: "I don't know. Cas is kind of like a talking dog."

"But he's dead now, right?" Sam asks of the old Southern colonel who left Scooby a fortune. "Uh, yeah. Cancer," Fred replies. Way to bring the room down, Sam. (Can we just take a moment to appreciate the crazy and wonderful thing that is the Winchesters sitting with the Scoobies?)

Sam: "We should be trying to get out of here, and instead you're hanging out with Marmaduke."

Dean: "[gasps] How dare you!"

Sam: "And hitting on Daphne when she's clearly with Fred."

Dean: "She's settling, alright. Ugh, Daphne could do so much better."

Finally, Dean's mouth is as big as his appetite.

Dean really doesn't like Fred: "He thinks he's so cool, with his perfect hair, his can-do attitude and that stupid ascot." So naturally, the hunter challenges Fred to a Baby vs. Mystery Machine race.

Dean: not a fan of Fred. But a very big fan of this sleeping robe.

Someone's got a crush on Sam! "I thought big lugs were kinda your thing," Daphne remarks, causing Velma to blush furiously.

Standing over cousin Simple's dead body — things just got real dark — the group utters their classic catchphrases: "Jinkies," "Jeepers," "Zoinks," "Ruh-roh," and of course, Dean's "Son of a bitch."

Dean doesn't care if he and Sam can die for real in the cartoon. "Scooby-Doo could die!" he exclaims. "And that's not happening! Not on my watch! I'd take a bullet for that dog."

After getting zapped by the TV in the Men of Letters bunker, Castiel joins the fun and has the most deadpan Cas reaction ever to what's happening: "Sam, Dean, this dog is talking."

You thought cousin Simple had it bad? At least he's not this dismembered guy. But the Scoobies remain unfazed. "Well, that's not good," Fred says before moving on, to which Sam replies, "So do they always just walk away from dead bodies or...?"

Everyone is splitting up to look for clues, but Sam doesn't think that's a good idea. "I wouldn't expect such a big, broad-shouldered fella like you to be as chicken as Shaggy," Velma replies. Girl has got it bad!

Cas is teamed with Shaggy and Scooby. "Wonderful," he says flatly. "I once led armies, and now I'm paired with a scruffy philistine and a talking dog."

Velma requests that Sam keep his "giant linebacker shoulders" from knocking over any clues. And poor, clueless Sam asks, "Why do you keep talking about my shoulders?"

As if the gang running between doors while the Scooby-Doo theme song plays weren't delightful enough, Scrappy-Doo also makes a surprise cameo during the sequence!

The Winchesters and Cas are forced to tell the Scooby gang the truth about the supernatural, causing them to have a nervous breakdown. Fred bangs his head against a tree and laments that they've been wasting their time stopping corrupt real estate developers when they could have been hunting Dracula. "My life is meaningless!" he exclaims, while Daphne is shaken by the idea that the afterlife is real. "Am I going to hell?!" she wonders. Uh-oh, you've broken the Scoobies, boys.

Giving guns to Scooby & Co. is a "Scooby Don't," per Dean, so instead Fred builds one of his traps using Supernatural ingredients like salt and iron chains and... coconuts?

When the trap fails, Velma offers to get a shotgun. "I can get two shotguns!" Daphne counters. We appreciate the enthusiasm, Daphs.

Despite all his efforts, Dean fails to woo Daphne away from Fred — a first for the ladies' man? — and leaves her with these words: "We'll never know what could have been." 

Aww, Cas made some new friends. He squeezes Shaggy and Scooby tight and tells them that he'll miss their "wise words" and "gentle spirits."

Now that's what we call a goodbye kiss. "Those shoulders... Jinkies," Velma sighs after dipping Sam and planting one on him. #Selma

Back home, Dean declares the Scooby adventure to be "the coolest thing that's ever happened to me! And that includes the Cartwright twins."

The real bad guy was using the cursed object to drive property values down so he could buy them up at a low cost. "Huh, Velma was right," Sam notes. "It was a shady real estate developer after all."

Dean — who is now Team Ascot — can't hide his excitement when the arrested baddie declares, "It's not fair. I would have gotten away with it if it wasn't for those meddling kids."

Recreating the cartoon's classic episode-ending shot, Dean looks to the camera and channels Scooby. "Dean, you're not a talking dog," Cas reminds him.

In a heartbreaking twist, the angry ghost turns out to be a little boy whose soul was tied to a pocket knife and who is being manipulated by a "bad man."

This "Changing Channels"-like bizarreness can't be the work of the Trickster because he's dead, Sam notes. "Or is he?" Dean replies. (We see what you did there, show.)

The "Dean Cave" or "Fortress of Deanitude" (final name TBD) looks pretty sweet. Too bad about the haunted object in Dean's precious TV.

Newspapers aren't dying out in Scooby-Doo — but they are lacking words.
