By now, you’ve probably seen the fake Jackie poster making the rounds online — and while it may have been created as a joke, the tagline (“You watched it for her, anyway!”) is not wrong. An entire show about Academy Award nominee Laurie Metcalf playing a life coach would be incredible, and you know it.
And while we’re talking about funny, complicated female characters capable of carrying this revival to the finish line, what about Sara Gilbert’s Darlene? We’d love to see her dip her toe into the dating pool again — and if she just so happens to swim back to David, so be it.
JACKIE AND DARLENE
Or just screw it and make the show about both of ’em. They (and the audience) have certainly earned it at this point.
If Valerie Harper’s Valerie — a 1986 sitcom about a working mother raising three boys — could transition into The Hogan Family after losing its star to behind-the-scenes disputes, why can’t Roseanne continue in the same fashion? There are plenty of Conners to go around (the table).
Not only did showrunner Bruce Helford already have plans to bring back the Conners’ hilarious Muslim neighbors next season, but this spinoff would also round out ABC’s lineup of inclusive family comedies quite nicely.
