They fight all the time, he cheated on her and threatened her life… oh, and then there’s the whole “he’s a serial killer known as the Black Hood” thing. They’re technically still married, but this relationship is way, way too toxic to be saved.
7. Hiram and Hermione Lodge
What a warm, affectionate couple, huh? Neither one is currently behind bars, so they have a slight edge on Betty’s parents, but the Lodges’ chemistry is frosty at best. Even when they’re on the same page, they act more like business associates than husband and wife. Is it too late for her to choose Fred?
6. Sierra McCoy and Tom Keller
Yes, Josie’s mom and Kevin’s dad certainly steamed up that room they shared at the Shady Palm Motel — but remember, they’re both still married, and not to each other. (Kevin’s mom is overseas serving our country!) We need to see the former sheriff and former mayor clean up their respective marital messes before we can consider rooting for them.
5. Kevin and Moose
They made it official with a kiss in the Season 2 finale, and Kevin definitely deserves some happiness (and some screentime). But we’re still not sure we trust Moose. If his fragile masculinity causes him to run back into the closet and break Kevin’s heart, we may never forgive him.
4. Archie and Veronica
They have chemistry, no doubt — we’re talking AP levels of chemistry here. (Just ask Archie’s shower.) But do these two have much beyond a physical connection? “Varchie” seems to get tripped up a lot by minor issues… and with Archie being framed for murder, we’re not sure these opposites will continue to attract with a wall of bulletproof glass between them.
3. Alice and F.P.
Speaking of chemistry… Betty’s mom and Jughead’s dad positively sizzle when they’re on screen together, and they do share a Serpent past. (And, oh yeah, a baby.) True, they are both currently married to other people, but we can’t let a hooded killer and a runaway wife stand in the way of this inevitable hookup. One possible hiccup, though: Their kids are currently hooking up, too. (Ew.)
2. Cheryl and Toni
There’s a lot to love about this dream pairing of quotably snarky teens: They’re both a lot of fun, they bring out an unexpectedly tender side in each other… and that kiss during the Sisters of Quiet Mercy rescue was off-the-charts romantic. We’ll see if “Choni’s” bond deepens or crumbles as they get to know each other better, but here’s hoping we get to see them happy together for a while first.
1. Betty and Jughead
The ponytailed girl next door and the wisecracking outcast seem like a mismatch on paper… but they’re both actually on the exact same (weird) wavelength. They make one heck of a crime-solving duo together, and they’ve helped each other get through some truly dark times. (There’s plenty of heat between them, too.) It may not be canon, but forget Archie and Betty: We’re Team “Bughead” all the way.
