People's Choice Awards 2018: The Best, Worst And Weirdest Moments

BEST: CLASSING UP THE JOINT

We had high hopes for the evening when Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly appeared on stage in their finest San Fernando Valley Rental suits. ("Ooh, a Spanish designer!")

Seriously, can we get these two to co-host next year? Their short-but-memorable bit proved they know exactly what the People's Choice Awards really are.

BEST: DAMN, DANAI!

There was something truly satisfying about watching Black Panther's Danai Gurira accept the award for Action Movie Star of 2018, a category in which she bested four of the world's biggest male movie stars. The fact that she referred to her fellow nominees as "very beautiful men" was merely the icing on the cake.

WORST: HASHTAG OVERLOAD

Encouraging viewers to vote live for a major category is fun, but it shouldn't take more than 30 seconds to explain the various hashtags that "must be used!" in order for those votes to count. In the words of Avril Lavigne, why'd you have to go and make things so complicated, PCAs?

WORST: KONFUSING KUTS

Seriously, find me the producer who said, "They're doing a Veteran's Day tribute! Quick, cut to the Kardashians!"

BEST: QUEEN SEEKS KING

You could practically hear the tabloid headlines being written when Nicki Minaj gave a shout-out to the designer of her dress, followed by one to "Michael B. Jordan, "because he's going to be taking it off for me tonight."

(Minaj gets bonus points for her other acceptance speech: "I'm going to dedicate this award to Kim Kardashian's ass in that dress.")

BEST: RETTA KEEPS IT REAL

Bless the star of NBC's Good Girls for [1] admitting that she needed her reading glasses to see the teleprompter, and [2] for introducing winner Blake Shelton as "Sexiest Man Alive 2017, everybody!"

BEST: GOING OUT ON TOP

Shadowhunters may be ending prematurely in 2018, but at least it's getting a heck of a sendoff. With huge wins for Katherine McNamara, Harry Shum Jr. and the show itself, tonight's ceremony might as well have been called the E! Shadowhunters Awards.

WEIRDEST: TARAN KILLAM DISCOVERS THE SHADOW WORLD

Speaking of Shadowhunters, the People's Choice Awards gave us a lot of puzzling pairings, but we especially loved watching Taran Killam's increasingly perplexed expression while Katherine McNamara poured her heart out about Shadowhunters, a show that Killam... didn't seem too familiar with.

WEIRDEST: THREE'S COMPANY

Can Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani and Carson Daly please use their collective Voice to explain this — the most awkward three-way congratulatory hug I've ever seen?

BEST: BIG MOOD

If we could sum up the overall vibe of the E! People's Choice Awards with a single image, it would be this incredibly enthusiastic shot of Victoria Beckham — mere moments before accepting the award for Fashion Icon of 2018.
