MTV Movie & TV Awards 2017: Best & Worst Moments
mtv-awards-mrs-potts
BEST: REBEL'S REDEMPTION
The mere sight of Rebel Wilson dressed as Mrs. Potts was enough to make us forget all about Super Fun Night. At last, we can move on.
mtv-awards-chrissy-metz
BEST: THIS IS BRILLIANT
Whoever came up with the lyrics "Be our guest, Chrissy Metz!" deserves a raise.
mtv-awards-adam-devine
BEST: DEVINE INTERVENTION
Lest you forget that the tiniest member of the Workaholics gang also has the voice of an angel, Adam DeVine opened the show with the musical extravaganza "Movies and TV," set to the tune of "Beauty and the Beast." (He even pulled a Sia and swung from the chandelier. Because, as the host said himself, "Corden would do it!")
mtv-awards-noah-cyrus
WORST: JUST SAY NO(AH)
As we watched Miley Cyrus' younger sister stammer around on stage, performing an alleged "anthem" of some sort, it was hard not to think of her as merely a dollar-store knockoff of the original.
mtv-awards-get-out
WORST: NO, REALLY — GET OUT
Get Out was such a good movie. It deserved better than the awkward banter written for Best Kiss presenters Allison Williams and Lil Rel Howery.
mtv-awards-maxine-waters
BEST: THE WINNER FOR 'MOST UNEXPECTED APPEARANCE BY A CONGRESSWOMAN' GOES TO...
...Representative Maxine Waters!
mtv-awards-jane-the-virgin
BEST: 'ADAM GETS IT'
If you only genuinely laughed at one joke tonight, we hope it was Adam DeVine telling the camera, "Jane the Virgin had sex this year — and it's none of your damn business!"
mtv-awards-taraji-p-henson
BEST: TELLING IT LIKE IT IS
Every winner thought it, but only Taraji P. Henson had the courage to say it: "This popcorn is heavy!"
mtv-awards-issa-rae
WORST: WASTED TALENT
Everytime we heard Insecure star Issa Rae's velvety vocals announce a group of nominees, we asked ourselves, "Why wasn't she given more to do?!"
mtv-awards-stranger-things
BEST: MOST RELATABLE SPEECH
We may not be nearly as eloquent as Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown, but we've definitely cried while holding food.
mtv-awards-olive-garden
WORST: BORROWED SLOGAN
It never occurred to us before, but does the Fast and Furious mantra ("When you're family, you're family") remind anyone else of Olive Garden?
mtv-awards-emma-watson
BEST: PRETTY MUCH EVERYTHING EMMA WATSON DID ALL NIGHT
The actress' acceptance speech for Best Actor in a Movie — in which she stressed the importance of all actors being considered equal, regardless of gender — marked a dramatic shift in tone for the ceremony. (Her reaction to seeing pal Hailee Steinfeld dressed up like Belle was also real cute.)
mtv-awards-baywatch
WORST: VOCABULARY LESSON
Our thoughts go out to Baywatch star Alexandra Daddario, who was contractually obligated to look dead-pan at the camera on live television and say, "Dong, ass, balls, wiener, titties, areolas." In that order.
mtv-awards-martha-and-snoop
BEST: NAME A MORE ICONIC DUO
No, really, we'll wait.
mtv-awards-trevor-noah
BEST: CLEVER NOAH
Sometimes the simplest mentions are also the best. Take The Daily Show host's presidential shout-out: "I'd like to thank Donald J. Trump... for the jokes."
