TV's Busiest Actors Of 2019
You might have seen some familiar faces while watching television in 2019. In the gallery below, we're recognizing 25 actors who appeared in multiple TV projects this year, including performers from The Good Place, Arrow and many more shows.
El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie
Aaron Paul
Paul's most memorable gig of the year was no doubt El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie, in which he reprised his role of Jesse Pinkman. But 2019 also delivered more BoJack Horseman episodes featuring Paul's voice, as well as the Apple TV+ series Truth Be Told, in which he plays convicted murderer Warren Cave.
adam-scott-big-little-lies
Adam Scott
Scott returned to Monterey, California this year, reprising his role as Ed Mackenzie on Big Little Lies. But he also made a trip to The Twilight Zone in CBS All Access' revival, in addition to appearances on I'm Sorry and Between Two Ferns: The Movie.
"Younger" Ep. 609 (Airs 8/14/19)
Charles Michael Davis
When he wasn't complicating Kelsey's life on Younger, Davis was recurring on Chicago P.D. or co-starring in ABC's now-cancelled legal drama For the People. He also appeared opposite Lea Michele in the Alphabet Net's holiday movie Same Time, Next Christmas.
christopher-meloni-happy
Christopher Meloni
Though Meloni's Syfy drama Happy! was axed after Season 2, the actor also recurred on The Handmaid's Tale's third season (while lending his voice to episodes of American Dad and Harley Quinn).
The Good Place - Season 4
D'Arcy Carden
The Good Place's Janet isn't a robot, but Carden might be! We assume that's how she kept up with a 2019 schedule that included the NBC sitcom, as well as roles on Barry, Bonding, Broad City and an appearance on Last Week Tonight With John Oliver.
New Jersey
Dermot Mulroney
Did it feel like you were seeing Mulroney everywhere this year? You kinda were! The actor's long list of 2019 credits included Arrested Development, Four Weddings and a Funeral and The Righteous Gemstones, plus episodes of Station 19, Drunk History and more.
Blindspot - Season 4
Ennis Esmer
Esmer put in more time as Blindspot's hilarious hacker Rich Dotcom this year, appearing in much of the drama's fourth season. In the meantime, the actor showed up on Schitt's Creek, You Me Her and the Canadian dramedy Private Eyes.
fred-armisen-los-espookys
Fred Armisen
Though Armisen wasn't quite as ubiquitous in 2019 as he was last year, the comedian was still plenty busy. In addition to HBO's Spanish-language comedy Los Espookys (which he also co-created), he had gigs on Saturday Night Live, Superstore, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, At Home With Amy Sedaris and more series.
gary-cole-veep
Gary Cole
Cole is perhaps best known for his role as Veep strategist Kent Davison, which he filled once again in the HBO comedy's final season. But the actor also showed up on The Good Fight, Chicago Fire, mixed-ish, Fam and Suits — and he tossed in quite a bit of voice work in his free time.
greta-lee-russian-doll
Greta Lee
Sweet birthday baby! After uttering that phrase a few dozen times on Netflix's Russian Doll, Lee showed up on episodes of The Other Two, At Home With Amy Sedaris and Divorce.
jennifer-ferrin-the-blacklist
Jennifer Ferrin
Ferrin's longest gig this year took place on The Blacklist, where she recurred as baddie Anna McMahon. But she also racked up credits on Instinct, God Friended Me, Evil and Fox's short-lived drama The Passage.
jennifer-irwin-izombie
Jennifer Irwin
Sitcom fans might recognize Irwin from The Goldbergs or Superstore, both of which featured the actress this year. But she also found time to recur on iZombie's final season, playing antagonist Dolly Durkins.
jeremy-bobb-jessica-jones
Jeremy Bobb
Bobb spent a lot of time on Netflix this year (didn't we all?), appearing on both Russian Doll and the final season of Marvel's Jessica Jones. Sandwiched in between was a role on AMC's The Son, where he appeared in six episodes.
Training Day
Katherine McNamara
After wrapping her run as Shadowhunters' Clary, McNamara took up full-time residence in the Arrowverse. She appeared as Mia Smoak on 16 episodes of Arrow, as well as crossover installments of Supergirl, Batwoman and The Flash.
KEN KIRBY
Ken Kirby
Kirby just couldn't stay away from family dramas in 2019. In addition to his work on the Fosters offshoot Good Trouble, the actor held roles on Grand Hotel and Dynasty, among other shows.
Kill Me as if It Were the Last Time
Kirby Howell-Baptiste
2019 was a big year for the British actress, who held roles on no less than four buzzy series: HBO's Barry, NBC's The Good Place, Hulu's revival of Veronica Mars and the inaugural season of CBS All Access' Why Women Kill.
marsha-stephanie-blake-when-they-see-us
Marsha Stephanie Blake
If you didn't know Blake before 2019, you certainly know her now: The actress scored her first Emmy nomination for her turn as Linda McCray on When They See Us. Later in the year, she appeared on How to Get Away With Murder and This Is Us, as well as an April episode of The Blacklist.
michael-sheen-prodigal-son
Michael Sheen
Sheen delivered some of the year's most enjoyable scenery-chewing — we've already said as much in our Year in Review — and 2019 was a three-course meal for the actor. Following a run on The Good Fight, Sheen put in time as angel Aziraphale on Good Omens, then transformed into serial killer Martin Whitly for Fox's Prodigal Son.
The Winner Takes It All
Nathalie Emmanuel
You might have heard of a little-known cult favorite called Game of Thrones, on which Emmanuel appeared for four episodes of its final season. (R.I.P., Missandei!) But 2019 remained busy for the actress, who starred in Hulu's Four Weddings and a Funeral adaptation and lent her voice to Netflix's The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.
olivia-colman-fleabag
Olivia Colman
Colman could have just taken her Oscar for The Favourite and called it a day. Instead, she appeared on multiple TV series this year, including Les Misérables, Fleabag and The Crown, where she took over the role of Queen Elizabeth II from Claire Foy.
Keep Calm and Party On
Patton Oswalt
We really hope Oswalt found time for a few naps this year — but by the looks of his resumé, that doesn't seem to be the case. The actor was basically everywhere in 2019, appearing in both comedies (such as Veep and A.P. Bio) and dramas (including Hulu's Veronica Mars revival). And even if you couldn't see Oswalt, you could certainly hear him: He also lent his voice to multiple shows, including Happy!, The Goldbergs, Big Hero 6: The Series, BoJack Horseman and many others.
rob-yang-the-resident
Rob Yang
Succession became one of the year's buzziest shows in its second season, so you might know Yang best as Vaulter founder Lawrence on the HBO drama. But the actor also held roles on Netflix's Living With Yourself (as spa employee Youngsu) and The Resident (as villainous Red Rock exec Logan Kim).
There's No Crying In Murder
Sam Jaeger
Tell Me a Story's first season wrapped in early 2019, but Jaeger stayed employed at CBS All Access, later portraying unfaithful husband Rob Stanton on Why Women Kill. The actor's 2019 credits also included The Handmaid's Tale and The Politician.
508 - Episode 8
Tracie Thoms
Though her consistent appearances on 9-1-1 and Truth Be Told kept her busy in 2019, Thoms also popped up on episodes of The Affair, The Good Doctor and Spectrum's Mad About You revival.
If It Doesn't Spark Joy
Walton Goggins
Goggins held three very different TV roles this year: ex-CIA operative Nathan Miller on the British thriller Deep State, skeezy pastor Baby Billy Freeman on The Righteous Gemstones and widower Wade Felton on the freshman CBS sitcom The Unicorn.
