With Saturday Night Live‘s truncated Season 45 now behind us, we’re revisiting how each of its 18 installments — featuring hosts Harry Styles, Chance the Rapper, Jennifer Lopez, Scarlett Johansson and Woody Harrelson, among others — fared, based on the average grade that you gave them. And because it would be unfair to compare the quality of the last three, remotely-shot episodes to the 15 preceding episodes that were filmed in Studio 8H, we have ranked the SNL at Home episodes separately and placed them at the beginning of the attached rundown.
Just how high does Eddie Murphy rate with the revival of fan-favorite characters like Buckwheat, Gumby and Mr. Robinson? Did fellow alumni Will Ferrell and John Mulaney fare better or worse? And what about Drag Race icon RuPaul, Stranger Things‘ David Harbour and Fleabag‘s Phoebe Waller-Bridge? Did any of this year’s first-time hosts do well enough to be invited back?
When we crunched the numbers, one thing became clear: This season was considered a vast improvement over the last. Fourteen out of 18 episodes earned an average grade of “B” or higher, while just five of 21 episodes earned a “B” or higher the previous year.
