Scrubs Revival: Judy Reyes Sets Return As Carla

Judy Reyes is returning to Sacred Heart.

The High Potential star will pull double duty and recur on ABC's Scrubs, reprising her role as nurse Carla Espinosa, TVLine has confirmed.

The highly anticipated revival, which will air during the 2025-26 TV season, will see "JD (Zach Braff) and Turk (Donald Faison) scrub in together for the first time in a long time," according to the official logline. "Medicine has changed, interns have changed, but their bromance has stood the test of time. Characters new and old navigate the waters of Sacred Heart with laughter, heart and some surprises along the way."

Scrubs first bowed on NBC in 2001, and chronicled Dr. John Dorian's rise from intern to attending at Sacred Heart Hospital. When NBC announced that it would not renew the series beyond Season 7, ABC swooped in and picked up the show for what was conceived as an eighth and final season, complete with a series finale that creator Bill Lawrence first conceived of years prior. But ABC ultimately renewed Scrubs for Season 9, which was subtitled Med School and featured a mix of new and returning characters, with Kerry Bishé's Lucy Bennett installed as the show's new narrator.

Reyes starred in Scrubs' first eight seasons as Carla, who married Turk at the end of Season 3. She did not return for Season 9.

Together, Turk and Carla had two daughters, including Isabella. In a montage at the end of Season 8, JD daydreamed that his son, Sam, would one day propose to Izzy.

As of press time, the Scrubs revival has only locked in Braff, Faison and Sarah Chalke (Dr. Elliot Reid) as series regulars, and Reyes as a recurring guest star — though Lawrence previously told TVLine that the plan is to have the entire original cast back in some capacity for Season 10.

Deadline was first to report Reyes' return.
