Hush won’t be the only one with a new face in Batwoman Season 2.
Series star Ruby Rose has decided to leave the CW series ahead of its sophomore run, it was revealed on Tuesday. The role will be recast.
“I have made the very difficult decision to not return to Batwoman next season,” Rose said in a statement. “This was not a decision I made lightly as I have the utmost respect for the cast, crew and everyone involved with the show in both Vancouver and in Los Angeles.
“I am beyond appreciative to [exec producers] Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Caroline Dries for not only giving me this incredible opportunity, but for welcoming me into the DC universe they have so beautifully created,” she added. “Thank you [WB chief] Peter Roth and [CW president] Mark Pedowitz and the teams at Warner Bros. and The CW who put so much into the show and always believed in me. Thank you to everyone who made season one a success – I am truly grateful.”
In a joint statement, Berlanti Prods. and Warner Bros. Television vowed to cast another LGBTQ actress in the iconic role. “[We] thank Ruby for her contributions to the success of our first season and wish her all the best,” the two companies said. “The studio and network are firmly committed to Batwoman’s second season and long-term future, and we — along with the show’s talented creative team — look forward to sharing its new direction, including the casting of a new lead actress and member of the LGBTQ community, in the coming months.”

It remains unclear why exactly Rose is exiting the series so early in its run.
Rose landed the role of Kate Kane/Batwoman in August 2018, following a brief search for an out LGBTQ actress to fill the famoulsy gay role. But within a week, Rose had shut off Comments on her Instagram after some backlash.
“Where on earth did ‘Ruby is not a lesbian therefore she can’t be batwoman’ come from — has to be the funniest most ridiculous thing I’ve ever read,” she posted. “I came out at 12? And have for the past 5 years had to deal with ‘she’s too gay’ how do y’all flip it like that?” She added that the the time since her casting had been a “rollercoaster,” and that she would take a break from Twitter to focus on work. “If you need me,” she signed off, “I’ll be on my Bat Phone.”
Last September, Rose shared (with a video) that she had months prior undergone emergency surgery after herniating two discs while performing stunts on an unspecified project. She said the injury came close to severing her spinal cord, leaving her in “chronic pain.”
The CW renewed Batwoman for Season 2 back in January. The show’s Season 1 finale aired this past Sunday.
Thoughts on Rose’s shocking departure? Will you miss her? Got recast ideas? Hit the comments!
Absolutely nuts. She isn’t the greatest actor, but I can’t imagine anyone else playing that part now.
How about Jaimie Alexander from Blindspot.
Is she in the LGBTQ community?
Who says the lead needs to be Lgbtq?
The creators do. Read the last paragraph of the article.
Completely missed that part in the article
Raise a glass for Ruby. Those shows are very taxing. Considering she is the lead. She might be burnt out. The injury she suffered probably played a major role in her decision. Batwoman as a show has alot of problems and I don’t think she is one of them. She will be missed.
The producers…
“The studio and network are firmly committed to Batwoman’s second season and long-term future, and we — along with the show’s talented creative team — look forward to sharing its new direction, including the casting of a new lead actress and member of the LGBTQ community, in the coming months.”
so basically they are limiting their choices just to fill a quota. isn;t that how they got stuck with rose in the first place?
“The studio and network are firmly committed to Batwoman’s second season and long-term future, and we — along with the show’s talented creative team — look forward to sharing its new direction, including the casting of a new lead actress and member of the LGBTQ community, in the coming months.”
Pageing Ashley Benson…
Heh. Unless they go for someone very vocal and well known, how does one prove they’re in the community. “Sure I’m a Lesbian…Why? What’ve you heard?”
Easily solved (by an ambitious actress). lgtBq community. Claim to be Bisexual, even you aren’t (and I find it hard to believe that ANY female, when interacting with Dbag males in their 20s, hasen’t at least STRONGLY considered other females instead of the aforementioned Dbag males), and then move towards males in the future.
Patrick obviously doesn’t remember the backlash when Rose was initially cast for the crossover event. Lots of uproar about how she wasn’t gay enough to be Kate Kane. Rose scoffed at the time noting that she’d been told for years she was too gay for parts, and now she’s was told she wasn’t gay enough. I highly doubt the showrunners want to kick this particular hornets’ nest again.
The producers. Read the article.
You missed the last paragraph in the article I guess
The radical left.
Take the Clorox IV out for a bit. Batwoman the character is in the LGBTQ spectrum. You’re so meta with your comment. How many IVs did it take to come up with that?
Thankyou my point exactly
I don’t get why they can’t just use the og character from comics and films? Why the character had to be lgbtq, and why if the character is going lesbian. Why do the have to find aa lesbian to play the role? How many times have actors played lgbtq characters B4? 100s? Shouldn’t the best actress get the part?
CW is trying to hard for this progressive content. Instead staying true to the comics.
And the 1 female centric show we all want to see with the Canary spin off, their not going to do. It’s laughable.
If they weren’t looking for an LGBTQ actress I’d completely agree! She’s coming fresh off of Blondspot and she’d be perfect for the role but I understand why they want to keep it an LGBTQ character played by an LGBTQ actress.
Who cares? Choose the best actress for the role. A straight person can act gay and a gay person can play straight. All of the characters Neal Patrick Harris played on television have been straight men and no one is complaining about that.
the same goes for Tom Levitt in “Smash” on NBC back in ’12! Christian Borle is straight AND married to the lovely and talented Sutton Foster…yet Tom IS gay and Christian IS straight too!
Formerly married to Sutton Foster.
Right. And Eric Stonestreet is straight but played a gay man on Modern Family. He was great in that role. I don’t recall anyone complaining that another straight man got a gay role. It’s called acting. You don’t have to be exactly like the character you play. I don’t believe for a moment that Chris Hemsworth is a Norse god/superhero.
I agree! In the last 20 or so years, many straight actors/actresses have played LGBTQI characters and many open LGBTQI people have played straight characters. Brokeback Mountain wasn’t any worse for it being played with two straight actors. Was Will & Grace not funny because Eric McCormack is straight. Big Bang Theory is still funny even though Jim Parsons is playing straight. Queer as Folk had both gay and straight actors. The list goes on. They are just human actors playing human roles playing the roles with respect. But they all were good because of the casting and chemistry.
Look at Darren Criss from Glee. He played Blaine, a gay character and played another gay role, but he, himself, is married to a woman who works for FOX. He actually said he does not want to play gay characters anymore. He has much respect for the LGBT community, but just does not want to play those roles anymore. It can go both ways. I had no idea Harris is gay until he announced it. It is the same with David Hyde Pierce from Frasier. I love Frasier and had no idea.
That’s a brilliant isea!
Why not drag quenn gd forbid if hes not gay to begin with why gay actors its not natharl she is good as batwoman
Ruby is lesbian… she came out at 12 (I think).
I can’t either. I thought Ruby was batastic and Batwoman I thought was the best of Arrowverse this season. I saw someone on another site suggested Counterpart’s Sara Serraiocco, which isn’t a bad suggestion. Its the best recommendation I have seen so far.
Well it will be interesting to find out why she made this decision and how long ago it really was made.Too bad, hopefully they’ll find someone like her and it won’t be too jarring of a change.
I believe due to her last injury that almost killed her or almost paralyzed her might be the reason for her leaving
Yeah, she seems to still be in a lot of pain and can’t really do the stunts required. There is only so much a stunt double can do. So I guess she felt she was never going to get better and was sort of cheating the audience.
Deadline’s article says their sources say it’s not related to the injury. It’s because she didn’t REALLY understand what she was signing up for being the lead in a 22-episode-a-year network show that shoots in Canada. Turns out it doesn’t make for the life she wants to live. Which, I get it, but it’s very bad to not thoroughly think that through before taking a job like this on which so many people depend. In fact, I’m pretty sure no one will ever hire her to work in television again after this. But she’ll get movie roles and whatever else, so she’ll be fine. And I’m 100% sure the show will be just fine too. Just my opinion. Watch them cast some total unknown (it won’t be a big name) who it turns out is a really strong actress, and we’ll soon all forget she wasn’t Kate Kane all along.
Also, Rachel Skarsten would slay playing the dual Kate/Beth roles if the schedule wouldn’t kill her. Oh well, we can dream.
….well, considering the years long lifeespan of DCTV series, she could have guessed that it wouldn’t have been a once in a while thing, and tiring and requiring a lot of effort (ammell posted a lot of workout videos back in the day….)
sure but ultimately, she was let out of her contract so the powers that be decided it was better to let her go and recast rather than force her to fulfill her contract. it’s very unlikely she signed a one year deal
Wait. WHAT?! That’s going to be SO weird.
they should have made a Batman show instead with the guy from Gotham. . . .
Fox owns the TV rights to Batman so Warner Bros can’t do a Batman TV show. That was why Gotham was on Fox and they could have Batman in the series finale
It’s also why Batwoman wasn’t allowed to let us think the real Bruce Wayne was on the show, they had to establish from go he was a fake.
I dont know if that fox thing is real though… they used Bruce on Titans..and they had a version of Bruce in the crisis… plus he’s been used in non fox animated shows… Gotham ended I’m pretty sure they can use him now.
You are incorrect. Matt is correct.
Nope
Sophia Bush would be a nice recast.
She’s straight AFAIK.
She’d also be better suited for a character like Zatanna. I don’t see her as Batwoman so much.
Then how do you explain Crisis? Batman has been mentioned before as well.
Warner Bros owns the rights to Batman due to owning DC Comics, not 20th Century Fox (which is now owned by Disney). And the reason why there’s never been a full-fledged Batman TV shows is because the Warner Bros film division puts restrictions that Warners TV has to follow.
What I understood of the situation is this. The Batman ’66 TV series was made at the time that WB didn’t own DC yet. Because of this the rights of that TV series happened to lay at Fox. Now, because this basically created a legal stalemate between Fox and WB/DC and the latter wanted to release Batman ’66 on home media they came to a deal. Fox had the right of first refusal of any live action Batman TV series. This led to the TV series Gotham. Now that Gotham has ended WB/DC can do whatever they want with Bruce Wayne/Batman on TV. Just look at 2019 in which Gotham ended on Fox and Pennyworth started on Epix and Batwoman on The CW (I guess Batwoman’s inclusion in the Arrowverse 2018 crossover was a loophole, as there wasn’t a Batman related show involved).
Now, all this I gather from ready tons of articles over the years so I can’t point at one source to back all this up. So, believe me or don’t, I won’t fault you.
It’s more about movie rights. If a company feels they’re going to use a major character in the movies they tend not to use them on TV. There is a Batman movie coming up but no apparent Superman movies. WB owns the rights to the character, but part of any deal usually involves not using the character in any other production for a period of time.
Besides, for Batman to show up in Batwoman could diminish the main character of the show.
Smart move. Lousy show.
Then maybe don’t watch it
This is gonna kill the show…..I cannot imagine otherwise. I deeply hope this well get undone, somehow
If the often consistently inconsistent writing and continuity throughout season 01 didn’t, why would not keeping a consistent cast across seasons kill it? Personally, I liked Ruby Rose ok in the role… and if the show must have a second season it might as well continue to be her …. I hope it is a personal decision made by her (i.e., for health reasons or something)… not because I want her to be ill… I just don’t want to learn that the show runners asked her to leave thinking it will “fix” the show. She isn’t the show’s problem: the writers and whoever has overall responsibility for the show’s story (or the lack of such a person). It has gotten a little better lately, but as much as I want to like it… the show is not good. Instead of recasting her … they should kill off the Kate character and let her half-sister or one of her ex-girlfriends pick up the mantle. Or figure out a way to have Alice kill and assume Batwoman’s identity.
It had the best season of any Arrowverse show.
The cast is great.
To be fair though while most of the cast is excellent Ruby was fairly wooden. She did get better as the season went on but she still gets acted off the screen most of the time especially by Rachel Skarsten. Admittedly so did Stephen Amell in arrow season 1 so she may have gone on to be great but not unless the LGBTQ+ requirement really limits their potential replacements it will hopefully be better once we get over the jarring nature of the change
Definitely the same boat as Amell and he did just fine. Skarsten is excellent. I think she is the Jodie Comer of Arrowverse. But Skarsten was not so great in Birds of Prey. I thought she was the show’s biggest problem. Now look at her! Awesomeness!!!
I agree with you. I’ve watched and enjoyed every show in the DC universe on CW and Batwoman was not that great.
I’m leaving too then. Bye Batwoman!
You won’t even give another actor a chance?
Right? especially since it seems Ruby is the one that wanted out. So let’s punish the show for what an actor decided to do?
Frankly, now I want in. I never liked her as an actress or a person (IDGAF about her sexual orientation, but she doesn’t seem like a good person). I was surprised when they cast her. Her personality was not that of a person who would be happy shooting in the hinterlands of Canada for the duration of a show like this. I think she hoped it would be a massive hit, opening up doors for her. Not that it did that for any of the Arrowverse casts. Not that it could. Shooting on these shows is too intricate and involved, it doesn’t allow for a lot of other projects to be worked on during the hiatuses. These shows end production later in the year, and start earlier, relative to other shows. But it wasn’t a big hit, meaning it wasn’t going to do wonders for her career. So she bailed.
.
Now I wish I’d suffered through her performance this year, so that I’d be ready for next year, which I am now looking forward to. A lot.
You still can. All the eps are on the CW app. (I’m still catching up myself)
First time I heard Vancouver being described as “the hinterlands of Canada!” LOL!
I never particularly cared for Rose, so never got into the show. If the producers wanted to be truly “progressive” they’d cast the best actor in the role regardless of their sexual orientation. I don’t care what you does what to whom in the privacy of their own home. Cast & promote people based on talent.
There’s a couple of ex-krystals available from Dynasty
HAHAHA
lmaooooooooo
You beat me to that joke. They might as well cancel this show now. Very few shows have ever changed actors for the title character mid series. And none have been successful afterwards. Too bad she didn’t leave post Crisis, at least then they could have explained it better.
The Hogan Family did well enough for a bit. =)
Sandy Duncan played a different character and they changed the name of the show. She didn’t just come in as their mom. I did remember that Cagney & Lacey started with a different actress playing the same title role during the 1st season.
That was Sharon Gless and didn’t it go for 6 seasons even after casting her? She was the best one too.
The 1981 pilot-movie had Loretta Swit (from “M*A*S*H”) playing Christine Cagney. She was replaced for the six-episode first season (Spring 1982), because “M*A*S*H” wouldn’t let her out of her contractual obligations to that show. So Meg Foster replaced Loretta Swit as Christine Cagney. However, according to Wikipedia, “CBS deemed Foster too aggressive and too likely to be perceived as a lesbian by the viewers”. So Cagney was recast after season one with Sharon Gless, and network executives pressed the show producers to rework the character more to their preferences.
The Conners seems to be doing okay too. It looks like it will get a 3rd season.
Again, though, that’s not changing out the actor playing the lead character….. that’s getting rid of the lead character. If they cut the Batwoman character from the show, it would be comparable to cutting Roseanne from the Connors… I’m not sure such a cut would work as well in this case….
Bewitched changed Darrens and it continued on for a long time. He was a major character. Fresh Prince changed Aunt Viv. It did fine. Roseanne changed Becky twice. This list is just off the top of my head. Not many people liked Ruby Rose. Ink waiting to see who they cast. I might start watching the show with her gone.
Yes, but the didn’t recast Samantha. They didn’t recast Will. They didn’t recast Roseanne. Roseanne is gone in The Conners, but she wasn’t replaced. I will still watch because I do like the show. I’ll at least give the new actress a try. But, I’m disappointed to see this. It might be fine, or even better than season one. But, it’s going to be hard to see someone else in the role after getting used to seeing her. I think recasting the lead only works on Doctor Who. :)
Olivia Colman replaced Claire Foy in The Crown. And Foy won award in her role. I get that the character aged, but they could have simply aged Foy and keep her.
I agree that changing Darren’s qualified as recasting a main character with a new actor. The others were more supporting actors, but that’s just my opinion. Good Call!
Dont Forget Mission Impossible.
They changed the lead from season 1 to season 2, Peter Graves was not in the first season, the rest of the cast were.
I wouldn’t count that one. Despite Steven Hill’s character (Dan Briggs) being the team leader in season one, “Mission: Impossible” was largely an ensemble show (more so than “Star Trek”), with the characters played by Martin Landau (Rollin Hand) and Barbara Bain (Cinnamon Carter) getting at least as much screen time as Steven Hill’s character (Dan Briggs) in the first season. Additionally, when Peter Graves replaced Steven Hill for season two, his team leader was a different character (Jim Phelps).
I’m, not ink. Sorry for the typo. Sorry for the duplicate.
Spartacus changed leads because the original actor died (which was very sad). I would say it missed a step right after the change, but it recovered, and it was successful.
Spartacus
I’m so curious about the reason! Does anyone knows if there was something going on backstage? Also, this could kill the show. I seriously doubt they will be able to pull this major recast after a whole season…sad.
There was tons of backlash from “fans” since she was casted, you can imagine why, also she suffered an injury on set that nearly left her paraplegic, I’m betting that those things came into play
Variety said it wasn’t health-related. But that does seem like the most logical explanation to me too. A Tobey Maguire kind of situation.
the “backlash” was from trolls not fans
Yeah “fans” … homophobic trolls
You know it is possible to dislike a person without it having anything to do with their sexual orientation right? Equality means equal. Just because she’s gay, it doesn’t mean she has to be liked by all. I could’ve give a **** if she likes men, women, or any other gender. I just care about her acting. I thought she was pretty decent in the role, but that it could possibly be done better.
My guess is that its physical. James Garner left the Rockford Files prematurely because he kept having to get knee surgeries during offseasons
She wasn’t the greatest actress, but she was improving. I have the feeling the injury she suffered early on factored into this.
Probably just got tired of all the bs from so called “fans” also I think this was her first lead role
Ummm …. recasting the lead? Why not just sign on to do a farewell arc – or have something happen to Kate and someone else take her place – not a big fan of hers but seems drastic
Wow.
I was surprised she took it in the first place tbh, especially since she’s been involved in some big movies. But she’s had to deal with a lot of harassment, so I guess I don’t blame her. It’s disappointing though.
replying to myself – they actually could make it work with the crazy accurate face swapping that Alice perfected ;-)
You didn’t reply to yourself but I understand the confusion 😂
It’s a good idea to get Alice to give her a new face!
They should have her get Alice’s face so that actress can take over as the lead!
The show was already on a downward trend before this.
Is this the first time a lead actor/actress has left their own series after just one season? I’m sure this can’t be the first time it’s happened but I’m struggling to think of other examples. Anthology shows like AHS or Homecoming excluded.
David Caruso NYPD Blue springs to mind.
Nathalie Kelley left Dynasty after season one, Ana Brenda Contreras left after season two, and Nicolette Sheridan left in season two, but the three actresses weren’t the lead of the show and the campy aspect of the show made for a somewhat believable transition for the replacement actresses
Christopher Eccleston left Dr. Who after one season. Luckily there is a built in cheat for those situations.
Well, I wouldn’t count that as the same thing exactly…but, I can see your point.
They recast the lead of Spartacus after the original passed away :(
Liam was actually cast before Andy passed away. Andy couldn’t film anymore as he was getting too sick.
I think the is probably the best example of a recast that didn’t hurt the show.
Sharon Gless was recast as one of the main leads on Cagney and Lacey in season 2 replacing Meg Foster as Cagney. That’s the best example of recasting of a main character doing well that I can think of. Major trivia: Loretta Swit played the same character in the pilot.
And it went on to 6 seasons. Sharon Gless was also my favorite for the role too.
Oddly enough, I believe the same happened to DC comics decades ago with Superboy.
I think John Newton was fired though instead of it being his decision to leave. Now perhaps Ruby Rose was really fired but they are letting her save face by saying she quit. But I will give her the benefit of the doubt.
Yes, Jon Newton was fired, but, regardless, the 1988 Superboy series is still an example of a television series recasting its lead actor between its first and second seasons.
Connie Britton on Station 19
Do you mean 911? I don’t remember her on Station 19
911, and that’s more of an ensemble show.
Connie wasn’t recast. Her story was she left. J Hewitt came in as a totally different character, but took the vacant spot Abby (Connie’s) had as a 911 dispatcher. Totally different Tru g going on there.
Connie always leaving something.
I’m sure Rose is leaving because of her injuries, they’re not making it safe on set.
I’d leave too if they can’t.
The Superboy television series that ran from 1988 to 1992 recast the part of Clark Kent/Superboy after the first season, with Gerard Christopher replacing Jon Haymes Newton, who had disagreements with the producers over a pay increase and was also arrested for a DUI between seasons.
You guys obviously don’t watch soaps. They recast lead actors/actresses for the same role all the time. Some work out well, others don’t. But it’s certainly not unusual. The only thing that would be unusual in a soap, is if a character who died, stays dead.
But iconic characters aren’t typically recast. No one else could play Erica Kane or Luke Spencer.
Roger Thorpe was recast. I will fight anyone who tries to claim he was not iconic.
I’ve only watched ABC soaps so I’m not familiar with Thorpe’s character but I know all the soaps have their iconic characters that are irreplaceable. Case in point, John Ingle took over the role of Edward Quartermaine after the original actor retired. GH replaced him and fans were pissed, and he was brought back 2 years later. Some actors just fit the role and it’s almost impossible to have someone else play that person.
Years ago on DAYS, Peter Reckell was replaced by Robert Kelker-Kelly. Reckell was one-half of the most popular couple of Bo & Hope, they were a super-couple at the time and no one thought either could be replaced. He was very popular in that role, and when Reckell decided to return a few years later, I was actually very unhappy that Kelly was leaving and for the way that he was treated just because Reckell decided to return. I never forgave the show for that, and couldn’t stand Bo after that.
Tony Musante left Toma and the producers found another actor… then decided to change the show and call it Baretta.
I would distinguish between “the lead” of a show (especially a titular lead) and “a lead”. That said, Phyllis Coates (Lois Lane) left “Adventures of Superman” (1952-1958) after the first season. She was replaced by Noel Neill, who had played Lois Lane in the 1948 and 1950 Superman theatrical serials. Noel Neill played Lois Lane for the last five seasons of the tv series. Phyllis Coates’ version of the character was generally no-nonsense, driven professionally, with little outward affection for Clark Kent, but respect for Superman. Noel Neill’s version was significantly warmer toward Clark Kent.
Mandy Patinkin left Chicago Hope just a handful of episodes into Season 2. Of course he would later make guest star appearances and come back full-time in the final season, but he wasn’t first billed any more after that
Is this about to be another “Dynasty” casting merry-go-round. Wow!
Wow… that’s insane.
I never bothered watching the show because of her especially but this is so unexpected.
I really hope she did not quit because of all the online harassment. CW shows are a cesspool of rabid fans. Just horrible!
Agree. And I can’t really blame her if that is ultimately the reason she left.
Look, we throw around words like harassment a lot. Justified criticism can seem like harassments. But sometimes the criticism is warranted. She’s not a good actor. Saying that is not harassment. Saying the sky is blue isn’t an attack on the sky. It is a statement of fact.
.
Frankly, I think she was never going to last living in Canada to shoot the show. She wants to live in a larger hub like London, LA, or Sydney. She was obviously never stoked about the remoteness of Canada (for entertainment purposes), and was never going to be happy shooting there for long periods of time. This was the first really involved project she was in, one where she had to be involved in a lot of the shooting, and I suspect she didn’t like it. She really seems like that type of dilettante performer who wants to show up for makeup and read the script for the first time and the go shoot. Practice, rehearsal, preparation……..These don’t seem like things she’d be interested in.
.
She seems to care more about being famous than in doing the work that brings fame.
.
This is purely my opinion. I wanted to like this show and her in it. And I just couldn’t do it.
I liked her. The same was said about Stephen Amell’s poor acting. I thought Rose did better in her first season.
You got a point there; it took me several seasons to warm to Amell.
But you don’t have to tag her in posts saying that she is a bad actor. That is the thing about social media that annoys me the most. If you don’t like an actor, you don’t have to tag them in your tweet saying you don’t like them. And if you write tweets every single day saying she can’t act and tag her in it, yes that IS harassment.
All I am saying is that there is a difference between criticism and what happens on social media. Being bombarded by tweets and comments that are purposefully (or even accidentally) tagging actors to say they can’t act can sure feel like harassment.
Yep. And sadly often someone will come along and tag the actor in the comments to your tweet/post. So, basically, if you’re not comfortable saying it to the actor’s face, you gotta kinda keep it to yourself these days. And if you’re comfortable being insulting (“She’s a s**** actor!” v “Her performance isn’t working for me”) to someone’s face, maybe just leave social media.
Also, to comment on the subject in general, we don’t know why she left the show. Harassment from fans, back injury, the strain of shooting a show like this… It could be none of these things, it could be all of them.
I will say this: she NEVER should have been bothered for being bi. Biphobia is awful, and while the production should have seen the issue coming and cast her without making a deal out of choosing an LGBT actor for the role, the so-called “backlash” (really just bullying) should never have happened.
And back injuries are no joke: I know or am related to three people with severe back issues and it can be horrible, lasting pain that ends up dictating a lot of what you can do in life. I wonder what is going on on this set that TWO people have been so badly hurt (don’t forget the PA who was paralyzed just before the shutdown.) If she feels unsafe, she’s every right to get out of there.
Just as it’s also understandable for her to be unhappy with the demands of shooting so many episodes in a place that, if the other commenter’s report is to be believed, she’s not happy with.
I mean, for real y’all, there’s not much point in speculating on so little information. It’s her life. I wish her the best in her career and I appreciate all the work she put into the role.
My. Mind. Is. Blown.
I mean, I think the change to a new actress would just be TOO jarring; this isn’t Dynasty where it’s an ensemble show and the roles aren’t the lead of the show. Tbh I think they should just cancel the show 🤷🏼♂️
Easy solution just replace her with Justin Bieber
Bieber or Miley Cyrus?
that sounds nice at first but that means more musical arrowverse episodes
I wonder if they’ll stick to the same casting parameters and want a lesbian? I wonder if Kristen Stewart would do it
Seriously doubt it. A bit below her pay grade.
The last paragraph says the producers want a member of the LGBTQ community to take over the role. Kristen Stewart would be far too expensive for the series and I would be shocked if she even humored the idea of doing it
They could try to bring Caitlin Stasey back, but the height difference would be jarring. Miley is a bit closer in height but it’s a question of whether she’d be interested
I can’t believe I’m saying this because I loathe her, but Cyrus might actually be great in the role (if she can act. Can she act?). Rose did absolutely nothing for me as an actor – could she be more wooden? – so pretty much anyone could be an improvement.
Are you forgetting Hannah Montana?
Did she act in Hannah Montana? I mean, really?
Well you know you have got a rubbish show when the lead quits. Probably only decided to work out her contract. The writing was on the wall from the beginning.
Caroline Dries has crafted an excellent show.
Google Stephen Amell and Grant Gustin’s salary on season 1 of their shows, and then google her salary.
I’m surprised Grant made less during season one than Stephen did, as Grant came off a rather large Glee guest role
Stop. You know not what you speak.
Couldn’t find her episode fee. How much is it?
I found an article on CBR listing it as $60-000, $75,000 per episode
….The frack you say…Well, that really sucks. She was tailor made for that role. Can’t even imagine what would have brought this on now. Especially as production has been shut down for a couple of months. Is the weekly grind too much for her. I imagine her contract was multi-year so unless it’s something seriously beyond her control, she’ll probably get penalized for this. There are a lot of actresses sitting at home, twiddling their thumbs, who’ll be itching to jump on that role. We’re talking about a show with a likely to be long shelf life and top billing money. Kind of a lottery winning role.
Deadline said it wasn’t related to the injury. I was surprised at her casting as I didn’t expect her to sign on to a show that could potentially go on 7 seasons so early into her career especially with the movie career.
She must of had a get out clause in her contact I wonder what happened behind the scenes.
Wow, that’s so disrespectful…!
Wait there has to be more to this story. Otherwise season 2 will be dead on arrival
