Dancing With the Stars: Julianne Hough to Replace Tyra Banks as Co-Host
Dancing With the Stars wasted little time finding a new co-host — and this one is no stranger to the ballroom.
Julianne Hough, a veteran of the reality dance competition, will serve as emcee of Season 32 alongside Alfonso Ribeiro, Disney+ announced Monday. The news comes just three days after Tyra Banks revealed she was stepping down as Dancing host after three years.
“I’m really focused on business. Like crazy, crazy, crazy focused on business,” Banks told TMZ at the time. “I feel it’s time for me to focus on my business and entrepreneurship, and also producing more TV, but behind the scenes. I think it’s time to graduate from the dance floor to the stock market floor… I really, really want to focus on my business, and you can’t do that hosting a show. You’ll see me creating things, not just hosting things.”
Hough has been a staple of Dancing With the Stars since its early years, first serving as a professional dance partner for five seasons (and winning the Mirrorball trophy with Olympian Apolo Anton Ohno and race car driver Hélio Castroneves). She also appeared as a guest judge on several occasions and sat at the dais full-time for Seasons 19 through 21, then again for Seasons 23 and 24.
In addition to Ribeiro (who joined Banks as a co-host for Season 31), Dancing With the Stars will welcome back judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli and Derek Hough (aka Julianne’s brother) for Season 32, premiering this fall on Disney+. Longtime head judge Len Goodman retired from the show at the end of last season in order to spend more time with his family across the pond.

This is a massive improvement and wonderful development. The only problem is that it might make Alfonso the main host.
What an improvement on DWTS. Never cared for Tyra Banks , didn’t like her on AGT either. They need Tom back!

I had some hope for the show when I read Tyra is leaving, but now that just went down the drain. What makes them think the Hough show will be any better than the Tyra show. I have had enough of Julianne and Derek. Not impressed!
Stop trying to make the Houghs happen! How many opportunities have they thrown at these two, and they’re cringe-worthy no matter what they do.
Ugh…that’s disappointing!!! She’s super fake!! I suppose she’ll be better than Tyra, but still not a great choice. Could do so much better. Bring in someone who is naturally funny who has a great natural banter with people. That is not Julianne! Why do the people in charge not see this!!! They should have had a viewers choice type thing to determine the new co-host.

I agree with this.
I think they should reverse the parts. Put Alphonso on as the host because he wasn’t very good at asking questions. Then put Julianne in the sky box. She’s been on both the judging and dancing sides and would (hopefully) know what to ask. But she’s flashier, so I guess they thought she’d be good as the host. We’ll see.
According to Deadline that is what they are going to be doing.
I was glad Tyra stepped down and I am beyond happy that Julianne will be taking over.
I wish it would have been someone like Leah Remini. Someone with a personality, who is quick on their feet & would really care for the contestants.

I watched DWTS faithfully until Tyra Banks took over. I gave her one season and stopped. I never understood why Tom and Erin were fired and I still feel it was a bad decision. I will be tuning in again now…
You lasted longer than I did! I couldn’t make it through more than 2 episodes of the Tyra Banks show! Wish Tom could return. 😪

The speed with which the two announcements were made probably means that Tyra was pushed out rather than she decided to leave. ABC/Disney has been using The Houghs a lot in specials and such so this seems like an extension of that. I’d love to see Tom back but I’m sure Disney regards him as too old for their desired audience.
I have been thinking since the announcement that Tyra didn’t make the decision to leave. I agree with you completely – the speed of this replacement announcement cinches that for me.
It didn’t even occur to me that Tyra left of her own accord. People truly disliked her and Disney was well aware.
I like Carrie Ann but then again anyone would be better than Tyra Banks! Maybe I can finally start watching again. Hadn’t
missed an episode until they fired Tom Bergeron & hired such a poor replacement. Now if only Tom could return everything would be right again!

Replacing Tyre Banks with Julianne Hough is a very good decision.
I think I’ll watch it again for the first time in years. I have Disney+ and while I got tired of it about 8 years ago, I have missed it and I always loved Julianne.

Well DWTS just made another mistake by putting the shoes of Tyra Banks on Julianne Hough. I am sorry they could have done better. Cheryl Burke would be better
Great. DWTS has become the Hough Show (again)… granted, Julianne has had experience beyond dancing onstage, but I kinda wanted Tom back. Either him, or maybe Cheryl.
