Charmed Shocker: Madeleine Mantock to Exit After 3 Seasons — Read Full Statement About ‘Difficult Decision’
The Power of Two will have to do when Charmed returns for its fourth season next year. Madeleine Mantock, who has played eldest sister Macy Vaughn since the reboot premiered in 2018, will not be returning, TVLine has learned exclusively.
“Playing Macy on Charmed for the last three seasons has been an immense privilege and I have so enjoyed working with our fantastic producers, creatives, cast and crew,” Mantock tells TVLine in an exclusive statement. “I’m incredibly grateful to The CW and CBS Studios for my time on the show and for being a brilliant support in my difficult decision to leave. Huge thanks to our fans who can look forward to, what I know will be, a spectacular fourth season.”
Only one episode remains in Charmed‘s third season, making Friday’s finale (The CW, 8/7c) Mantock’s final episode as a series regular.
“We can’t thank Madeleine enough for her incredible and inspiring work on Charmed,” showrunners Liz Kruger and Craig Shapiro tell TVLine exclusively. “We will miss her as much as the fans will, but we also respect her decision to move on. This is a difficult time in the world, and everyone has to follow their heart. We wish her well, and the door is always open for a return visit from Macy…one way or another!”
Coincidentally, Shannen Doherty — who portrayed eldest sister Prue Halliwell on the original Charmed — also departed the WB drama after three seasons. Her exit resulted in Prue’s death, as well as the arrival of long-lost fourth sister Paige (Rose McGowan).
A few key questions remain: How will Macy be written off the show? Will Mel and Maggie discover another long-lost sister with whom to reconstitute the Power of Three, or might another relative like Josefina simply take her place? And what does this mean for Harry, who was so in love with Macy that he gave up his immortality to grow old with her? Some of those will likely be answered during Friday’s finale, while others will roll over to Season 4, which is expected to premiere in early 2022.
For now, all we can do is speculate based on the finale’s official logline: “When an encounter with the Whispering Evil leaves Macy on the brink of death, Mel and Maggie cast an ancient spell sending the Charmed Ones off on a series of epic adventures. Meanwhile, realizing only a Whitelighter can save Macy, Harry asks Jordan and Celeste to help him do the unthinkable.”

I hate seeing her go but why not replace with another actor rather than going through some big explanation as to why she’s gone. These situations always happen so the producers of these shows should always be prepared for them.

She was my least favorite but I will miss the Harry/Macy build that took forever. Maybe they can borrow a page from Black Lightning and do a magical recast that keeps the character around, you could easily do a spell that changes her appearance.

I know right? I like the actress in every role she’s played but in this instance I really think she was not cast well. It looked so awkward to have her towering over her sisters.

I thought she was cast perfectly. I think they were trying to go for the whole equality thing. Families come with all different shapes and sizes. .. let’s not go there guys.
I agree. She fit perfectly and I’m so sad to see her leave. Her character brings much needed social ideas and a particular type of fierceness to the show.

I’ll wait to see if they can avoid the mistakes of the original by turning the show into a girly gag fest or something equally lame.
Hold on to hope, there isn’t an Alyssa Milano to dictate how the buisness works and show is written. So glad they didn’t bring those harpies in for a cameo. I think we’ve had our fill of that type of actress/actor.

They really should’ve gone with 4 or 5 sisters so they had a backup when this inevitably happened.
Could also have written in another off-screen sister from the beginning who can “return home” when needed.
The point of Mel being raised as the oldest with no knowledge of Macy was so she could feel betrayed by her mother since Marsiol kept secrets from her and Maggie.
Harry and Macy’s love story was my reason for watching. I just can’t imagine the show without her or why she would have wanted to leave. Hopefully at least they won’t kill her off so she can return as a guest in the future. (Will Harry be leaving or part time as well next year? I read that he has been cast in Season 2 of The Bridgertons.)
From what I heard Rupert’s character will be in flashbacks in Bridgertons since his character is dead in the present day.
Bridgerton is only 8 episodes so it shouldn’t effect him filming Charmed.
In IMDB Rupert Evans only has 2 episodes he will be involved in.
Also,Bridgerton has been filming since spring( sometime between Feb &April they started) so they’re filming before he has to film Charmed.
Only difference between hers and Shannon Doherty’s exit is Madeleine Mantock wasn’t fired.

Shannon claimed in a Comic Con interview that she didn’t know when they film that finale that would be her last episode since the premiere of Season 4 wasn’t set in stone.
Shannen also directed the last episode she was in. Seems weird to me that she would have done that if her plan was to leave.
She did say that, and then proceed to explain how she actually left after the finale. Hence why the S3 finale is confusing.
She had asked to leave after season 2 and was told no. They brought in counselors to try to sit the girls down and talk to them and that didn’t work. Then after filming the finale to the 3rd season Shannen was told shes not coming back. She was fully prepared to do a 4th season.

Shannon choose to leave. If she had stayed, the character of Phoebe would have stayed in the underground with Cole. Forever. That was the original plan.

From this show’s mythology it only seems that blood sisters are chosen to be the Charmed Ones and while much information wasn’t given on previous incarnations of them it seems like all group were Cisgender. Josefina ontop of being their cousin is also a Trans woman and according to her immediate family shares an belief with the rest of the magical world. Only biological women could have magical powers of course Josefina got powers and proved that wrong, but we haven’t seen any Cis Males who have unlocked Witch Powers on this series as of yet since the guy actors play every other species that was introduced in the series expect the Wizards.

Since the showrunner said Madeline is welcome back any time, I doubt they kill off Macy. But my guess is with the travel restrictions in place, Madeline had to have found it difficult returning to England as often as she’d like, and wants to go home and be there for a while.

I’ll miss her as Macy – she was my favorite of the Charmed Ones – but this opens new story possibilities, including Harry reverting back to a Whitelighter (which the finale’s logline implies). I approve of that, BTW!

I had heard that travel was an issue as well. I really loved Macy’s character tho ..she was my fav as well. She was so strong. But I know there is third sister and I’m glad Harry is back to being a white lighter and Jordan possibly?🤔

Yawn, so original (NOT). This show barely was holding my interesting, Macy being the drawn.
Doing the long-lost sibling thing again in S4 seems like a reach given that the women in this iteration feel so much like co-workers and not sisters. I do enjoy it in its own right but I think that’s always been where the show gets weak for me. Also when you take into account that the show started with a long-lost sibling being revealed, doing it again feels like overkill. I wish Madeleine the best though, she was absolutely the fiercest character IMO.
The charmed one’s long lost sister can be Jada ! The half witch /half whitelighter from season 1. Jada never did discover who her parents were.
They could just replace the Macy character with a new actress (e.g. Batwoman) and say that they needed to put a permanent “glamour” spell on Macy for whatever reason. I mean if they could come up with the “allergy” thing to keep them separate due to COVID, they can come up with something other than killing off the character, especially on a series concerning magic.
Fun fact the original series was going to recast pure before they settled on having Rose McGowan play a long lost younger sister instead. So maybe they’ll take a page out of the original series’ book and recast
Yeah, but a S2 episode help the OG Charmed writers introduced the easter egg that became Paige when they were planning Season 4.
Also if I May added while The Charmed in the OG series all had their appearances. Those in the know about that Witch Protection saw through their glamours onscreen while they were out in public as their true selves while we the audience only saw their true forms while they were in private. So if they are truely going recast Macy they will need a plausible explanation as to why she’s stuck with her new appearance 24/7.

She couldn’t have predicted the conditions that the current season was filmed under when she signed that contract. The pandemic forced a lot of people to reflect on their situations and make big career and life changes.

That’s a little harsh isn’t it? You don’t know what’s happening in people’s lives. You literally have no idea why she decided to leave, what if she’s ill or a family member is ill? Not many actors decide to leave stable jobs just because they can’t be bothered. Don’t be so quick to judge without knowing the facts.

you can’t really speak bad on Madeleine tho , I’m very disappointed but we don’t know what happened behind the scenes and how she felt or could’ve been treated we don’t know her reason for leaving .
I guess next season, Mel’s magical baby will already be like 18 and be the new Charmed one.

Yup! That’s the winner 🏆. I could absolutely see the writers ridiculously going that direction, and the baby would be bonded by blood. Plus, it’s already been shown in the storyline that the baby has magical abilities.
So I’m an OG Charmed fan all the way and didn’t much care for this new iteration. But I decided to give it a chance because of this actress and this character. Harry and Macy also grew on me. I legit don’t have anything to draw me back to the show now. Which is ironic because I continued and loved OG Charmed even after Prue left 😂

The issue with this version is a lack of variation in terms of plot .Character development is an issue and now they are borrowing plot lines.
OG charmed was interesting, this is a snooze fest. I was not bothered that Macy was leaving ,unfortunately a lot of programmes are too inverted in political correctness instead bringing actual interesting shows. I am surprised the show made it this far.

I am very disappointed I have completely fallen in love with Macy, Mel and Maggie as the Charmed Ones. I was really settling in with the trio, I can’t imagine how this recovery will be? However I selflessly wish Madeline Mantock the Best of wishes. I really hope Season 4 has something spectacular in store to keep me watching. The magical community will have to come through strong for The Charmes Ones this time. I’ll be watching and I will be critiquing for sure. So Bittersweet.
Maybe the fact that Macy got her evil side back will be something the writers can work with and change her appearance to fit a replacement.

Why announce it now? It kinda spoiled the finale for me. She is my favorite, can’t imagine show without her? they can find 4th sister like in the original but since Marisol already gave Macy away as a baby, how many children did she give away? Again,filming starts soon I imagine and questions would abound when Madeline wasn’t on set and people would ( probably) find out in the finale anyway and the actresses/network wanted to get ahead of the tabloid reports I would guess.

They should at least wait until the finale airs. They did the same thing with The Black List. One of the original main cast members was killed off in the season finale. But, they announced she was leaving just before the finale aired. It makes people less invested because they know that the character is being written out in some way.
I will say if Poppy Drayton ever leaves I am TOTALLY out… Madeleine though is a HUGE blow for a show that was hanging by a razors edge anyway due to a lack of quality acting. The other two sisters are just not believable in their roles to me… of course if this means Poppy gets more screen time…I am ALL for it.

Jay, no worries Poppy was able to take all of Macy’s evolving character storyline and the show did their best to elevate Abigail beyond the Charmed one sisters of the show. The show showed their bias and prejudice by giving the character Abby better brighter lighting, costumes, story, lines in general as well as usurped Macy’s development by literally giving another character Macy’s storyline and diminished her character systematically. I understand why you love an support Abby. That is what the show wants from their fans as they are dismantling the sisters and it started in the middle of Season 2.
I think the coolest and strongest character on the show is Abigael (who is not really an evil demon but a good character deep inside, who has helped the Charmed Ones many times) and I’d like to see her replace Macy on season 4, as the 3rd Charmed One. That would be quite a twist, and the writers can make it happen. I do not understand why everyone is so distraught over Madeleine Mantock leaving the show. She was an average actress (just like the other two). I also think we need to see more of the “Perfecti”. The “Perfecti”were both so cool! The “Doom of Chaos” monster prison needs to be revisited. It was awesome and reminded me a lot the underworld in Clive Barker’s “Hellraiser II”
