Sabrina Carpenter Gets Freaky With An Alien At 2024 VMAs — Watch Performance And Grade It

Sabrina Carpenter gave viewers a taste of what she's made of on Wednesday, performing a few of the summer's biggest songs at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards.

Seated atop a glittery swing, Carpenter was lowered onto the VMAs stage while she treated the audience to some ethereal vocals on "Please Please Please." Once she had her feet on the ground, it was straight into her new single "Taste." After some PDA with an alien (because why not!), she then segued into her monster hit "Espresso."

Watch Carpenter's full VMAs performance below:

Carpenter made her VMAs debut in 2023, performing "Feather" and "Nonsense" during the official pre-show. This year marks Carpenter's first time performing on stage during the actual VMA ceremony.

Carpenter entered this year's VMAs with a whopping seven nominations, including Artist of the Year and Best Pop Artist. Additional nods included Song of the Year and Best Editing for "Espresso"; and Best Direction, Best Art Direction and Song of the Summer for "Please Please Please."

Though Carpenter is currently receiving accolades for music, her career has deeper roots on the small screen. Before she was topping the charts, Carpenter spent three seasons (2014–2017) playing Maya Hart on Disney Channel's Girl Meets World. By that time, she had already guest-starred on some of TV's biggest shows, including Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Orange Is the New Black. She would later go on to star in several Netflix original movies, including Work It and the Tall Girl franchise.

Carpenter recently lit up the internet with the release of her music video for "Taste," in which she locked lips with fellow Disney Channel grad (and current Wednesday star) Jenna Ortega as part of an homage to the 1992 Meryl Streep/Goldie Hawn movie Death Becomes Her.

Carpenter was one of several highly anticipated performers this year, along with Anitta, Benson Boone, Camila Cabello, Chappell Roan, Eminem, GloRilla, Halsey, Karol G, Katy Perry, Lenny Kravitz, Lisa, LL Cool J, (host) Megan Thee Stallion, Rauw Alejandro and Shawn Mendes.
