Emmys 2023 Poll: What Should Win For Outstanding Drama Series?
Succession and Better Call Saul are hoping to grasp Emmy gold for their final seasons — but will a trio of fantasy/sci-fi upstarts steal their thunder?
This year's eight nominees for Best Drama Series are led by a pair of seasoned veterans being honored for their final runs: HBO's two-time winner Succession, back for its fourth nomination; and AMC's Better Call Saul, earning its seventh nomination in this category, but with no wins as of yet. (In fact, Saul has yet to win a single Emmy in any category — a baffling oversight that we sincerely hope is corrected this year.) Also back for more is Netflix's royal drama The Crown, nabbing its fifth nod, with a win in 2021.
They're joined by a set of relative novices, including Showtime's survival thriller Yellowjackets, nominated in this category again after a nod last year. HBO's travelogue dramedy The White Lotus is also back, but with a category change: It's nominated for Best Drama Series for Season 2 after winning for Best Limited Series last year. Rounding out the category are three freshmen contenders, all hailing from the fantasy/sci-fi genre: the zombie drama The Last of Us and the Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon, both from HBO; and Disney+'s Star Wars series Andor.
If we're reading the tea leaves for any hints, Succession leads the way with 27 total nominations, but The Last of Us and The White Lotus are right behind with 24 and 23, respectively. But never mind who's going to win on Monday, Jan. 15: We want to know who you think should win. Vote for your favorite in the poll below, then hit the comments to defend your pick.
