Emmys 2023 Poll: Who Should Win For Lead Actress In A Comedy Series?
Missed yesterday's Emmy poll? Go here to vote!
Reigning champ Jean Smart is out of the running for this year's Emmy for Lead Actress in a Comedy — which means a fresh set of funny ladies is looking to take home the gold.
With Smart's series Hacks between seasons, she's not eligible this year after two straight wins, so we'll see a new winner in this category — though one of them already has a previous win under her belt. Rachel Brosnahan is back for the fifth time for her work as stand-up comic Midge on Prime Video's The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and she won this award in 2018. But her competition is also quite familiar to Emmy voters, led by Quinta Brunson, who's nominated for the second straight year for playing schoolteacher Janine on ABC's Abbott Elementary. (She won an Emmy last year for her writing work on Abbott.)
Natasha Lyonne also picked up a nod as amateur sleuth Charlie on Peacock's Poker Face, after previous Emmy nominations for Russian Doll and Orange Is the New Black. Plus, Christina Applegate earned a third nomination for playing Dead to Me's cynical widow Jen, and she won an Emmy back in 2003 for her guest role on Friends. The only true newcomer of the bunch: Jenna Ortega, who nailed her first career nod for breathing new life into teen goth Wednesday Addams in the Netflix freshman hit Wednesday.
So who deserves to follow in Smart's footsteps up to the Emmy podium? It's your call: Vote for your favorite in the poll below, then hit the comments to defend your pick.
