Beyoncé Wins First-Ever Album Of The Year Grammy For Cowboy Carter

Beyoncé's Grammys curse is officially lifted.

After being passed over on four separate occasions, the icon formerly known as Sasha Fierce finally won Album of the Year during Sunday's ceremony for her debut country effort Cowboy Carter.

"I just feel very full and very honored," Beyoncé said as she accepted the award. "It's been many, many years. I just want to thank the Grammys, every songwriter, every collaborator, every producer. I want to dedicate this to Ms. [Linda] Martell, and I hope we just keep pushing forward, opening doors."

And this victory didn't come easily. Beyoncé faced stiff competition in this category from Charli XCX's Brat, Jacob Collier's Djesse Vol. 4, Billie Eilish's Hit Me Hard and Soft, André 3000's New Blue Sun, Chappell Roan's The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, Sabrina Carpenter's Short n' Sweet, and Taylor Swift's The Tortured Poets Department.

Beyoncé's previous Album of the Year nominations were for I Am... Sasha Fierce in 2010, which she lost to Taylor Swift's Fearless; Beyoncé in 2015, which she lost to Beck's Morning Phase; Lemonade in 2017, which she lost to Adele's 25; and Renaissance in 2023, which she lost to Harry Styles' Harry's House.

Of course, this was hardly Beyoncé's only big win of the night. Cowboy Carter also earned her the Grammy for Best Country Album, resulting in an emotional acceptance speech, as she became the first Black woman to win in this particular category.

Beyoncé entered Sunday's ceremony with a whopping 11 nominations: Album of the Year and Best Country Album for Cowboy Carter; Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Country Song for "Texas Hold 'Em"; Best Pop Solo Performance for "Bodyguard"; Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for "Levii's Jeans," featuring Post Malone; Best Melodic Rap Performance for "Spaghetti," featuring Linda Martell and Shaboozey; Best Country Solo Performance for "16 Carriages"; Best Country Duo/Group Performance for "II Most Wanted," featuring Miley Cyrus; and Best Americana Performance for "Ya Ya."

All told, Beyoncé took home three of those: Album of the Year, Best Country Album and Best Country Duo/Group Performance.
