"CIA" is back on CBS for its sophomore season, and while its first big case gave us plenty to sink our teeth into, its cliffhanger could potentially change Bill's life forever.

It's been three weeks since Bill's dad died, but he returns to work in the Season 2 premiere looking a bit tense. After an energetic boxing sesh with Stuart Scola ("FBI" actor John Boyd appearing in a crossover), Colin once again surprises Bill in the back of his car. Apparently, Bill didn't respond to any of Colin's calls or texts, and Colin says he wishes he could've been there for his friend throughout his big loss. Bill responds by... being on edge. Awkward!

There's a new face at New York Station in Teddy Marsh, a woman who just transferred in from Berlin. As Bill and Colin greet her, Nikki rounds up the gang for an update. A cartel fixer just arrived in New York by the name of Eduardo "Lalo" Cabrella. And he means trouble. He works for the Ortega cartel out of Colombia, and is wanted in a dozen different countries. Naturally, Nikki wants to know why he's here and what he's up to.

The guys attempt to follow Lalo, but almost immediately lose him thanks to their own squabbling. But thanks to Nikki and some cleverly placed tracking powder, they're able to follow him to the home of a former Navy SEAL named Mitch Selby. When Bill and Colin enter the house, they find Lalo standing over Selby's dead body. They later find an empty safe hidden behind a painting. Looks like whatever Selby was hiding is long gone now.

Nikki gets a tip from her contact Deborah about a guy named Kip Paul, the man who was murdered on his yacht in the cold open. The ship was robbed of something very important and very lucrative. Another tip leads the guys to Keith Truman, who Nikki hopes will lead them to other DEA agents that Lalo may be after. They find Truman deep under cover on a six month job. He's surprised Mitch and Kip have been taken out and agrees that it sounds like a revenge ploy. Bill and Colin promise to set up a safe house.

Gina's research leads the team to an assassin named Felix, and the name immediately rings a bell for Colin. Felix has killed three CIA operatives in the past. The new theory: Felix is robbing the DEA agents of cash they stole from the cartel.

Bill's dad leaves behind a puzzling clue

Bill heads over to his mom's house (played by "Freaks and Geeks" actress Becky Ann Baker). It's there where he finds an old airline stub of his dad's. The boarding pass says he was in Georgia in 1998. Bill's Spidey sense is tingling, but Ma knows nothing about it.

Later, Colin and Bill are searching a garage for Felix's car, until a camera beeps and the men barely escape an exploding bomb. Surveillance footage shows that Truman had been in that same garage the night before, leading the crew to think that he's now working with the assassin.

The guys find Gary Martin, another former acquaintance of Selby's who says Keith was dirty from Day 1. Martin says there was a guard they didn't expect back in the day when they were trying to lift the loot. A 15-year-old kid. Kip pulled the trigger and killed him. The whole ordeal led Gary to quit the DEA and get clean, but the kid's face still haunts him to this day. Gary wants to pay his respects to his dead friend at the funeral, then he agrees to go to prison for his part in what they did. Colin, however, has another idea: They can use Gary as bait to lure Felix out.

After the funeral and en route to the reception, Colin's car gets T-boned by Felix. And just as Felix is about to shoot Bill and Gary, Colin comes to the rescue to fire his weapon and send the assassin on the run. Bill catches up to the guy on a bridge, only Felix takes a head-first plunge into the water below. After, Bill and Colin catch up with Truman whose van is filled with the stolen cash. They ask him to help them bag Felix, but Truman's of no use, so Bill cuffs him.

Nikki confirms that Felix is still alive, which is a bummer for the CIA (but a treat for us — we love a recurring bad guy!). Meanwhile, Colin searches heaps of old CIA files and finds something very interesting. Bill's dad, Robert Goodman, was CIA. And Bill never knew. The two men don't know exactly what this means, but Colin promises Bill that they'll figure it out together.
