Undercover Boss Returning To CBS; Drew Carey Hosting 'Reimagined Version' Of The Show

CBS is ready to go back undercover. After a four-year hiatus, the reality show "Undercover Boss" is returning for Season 12, this time with Drew Carey ("The Price is Right") as host, TVLine has learned.

This new season is being described as a "reimagined version" of the original show, as well as a "refreshed take" on the established format, though it's unclear exactly what changes will be made. The first 11 seasons followed leaders at various businesses as they disguised themselves as entry-level employees to learn what's really going on at their companies — for better or worse.

"Corporate leaders go undercover within their own organizations to gain firsthand insight into their workforce and operations," reads CBS official description of the new season, which sounds like business as usual.

CBS "couldn't think of a better time to bring back a reimagined version of 'Boss,' with Drew Carey serving as our host through undercover journeys that tap into the heart and authenticity of hard-working employees that audiences have always loved seeing," says Mitch Graham, executive vice president of alternative series.

"Undercover Boss" was named Outstanding Reality Program at the Primetime Emmy Awards, first in 2012 and again in 2013.

A premiere date for the new season of "Undercover Boss," as well as further details on the changes, will be announced at a later time.

In addition to a new season of "Undercover Boss," CBS has also ordered a pair of new competition shows, "Stacks of Cash" and "24 Hour Millionaire."

On "Stacks of Cash," which is hosted by Mike O'Malley, "six contestants face off in a quiz-driven battle with towering stakes," according to CBS' description. "Players answer questions to earn uniquely shaped blocks, then stack their way toward a gold line. One wrong move can send everything crashing down."

And "24 Hour Millionaire," from the executive producers of "Big Brother," is a slightly higher-concept game show, described as "an epic series that assembles the most skilled game players and puts them to the ultimate test: 24 nonstop hours of social strategy and physical competitions where one player is guaranteed to walk away with a $1 million prize."

The description continues: "Only the best of the best will be invited, and they will be challenged to play an entirely new game where literally every second counts. In this ticking time bomb of strategy and gameplay, they will face off in groundbreaking series where thinking fast is essential; assessing threats is critical and performing under pressure is crucial. With no breaks and no rest, the pressure builds as the clock ticks down over an intense 24 hours, pushing even the most accomplished competitors to their limits."
