John Goodman Joins The Last Of Us Season 3 — But Who Is He Playing?

John Goodman is returning to HBO: "The Righteous Gemstones" star has joined Season 3 of the cabler's video game adaptation "The Last of Us," THR reports. 

HBO made the announcement Saturday, September 26, a key date in the story's lore which marks the start of the cordyceps outbreak that sets the horrific events in motion. 

Goodman and Ian Alexander ("Star Trek: Discovery") will play Joey and Paco, a "friendly duo" who call themselves the "Heroes of the Highway." Laura Bailey ("Critical Role") is also joining the series as Elizabeth, one of the leaders of a religious sect called the Seraphites.

Alexander and Bailey both held voice roles in the video game sequel "The Last of Us: Part II." Alexander voiced Lev and Bailey voiced Abby — the character played by Kaitlyn Dever in the HBO series.

The three actors are among Season 3 additions that also include Jason Ritter, Patrick Wilson, Clea DuVall, and Jorge Lendeborg Jr. Returning cast includes Bella Ramsey, Kaitlyn Dever, Isabela Merced, Gabriel Luna, Jeffrey Wright, Ariella Barer, Tati Gabrielle, and Spencer Lord. Co-creator Craig Mazin will be the sole showrunner for the season following the departure of co-creator Neil Druckmann at the end of Season 2.
