The Beast In Me Renewed For Season 2 At Netflix, With Claire Danes Returning To Star

Aggie Wiggs' literary journey will get another chapter on Netflix: The streamer has renewed the Emmy-winning thriller "The Beast in Me" for Season 2, with Claire Danes returning to star, TVLine has learned. Executive producer Howard Gordon will return as co-showrunner as well, joined by fellow EP Daniel Pearle. (Danes also serves as an EP on the series.) 

"We always told ourselves we'd only do a second season of 'The Beast in Me' if we found a story that was worthy of the first — and I'm thrilled to say we found it," Gordon said in a statement. "We loved making this show and our audience seemed to love watching it, so we're enormously grateful to Jinny Howe and Netflix, and to Karey Burke and 20th Television for giving us the chance to get the band back together and do it again." (No plot details on Season 2 have been released yet.) 

Claire Danes starred in Season 1 as book author Aggie Wiggs, who faced a bad case of writer's block until infamous murder suspect Nile Jarvis, played by Matthew Rhys, moved in next door. "At once horrified and fascinated by this man, Aggie finds herself compulsively hunting for the truth — chasing his demons while fleeing her own — in a game of cat and mouse that might turn deadly," per the official description.

"The Beast in Me" debuted on Netflix in November and went on to earn nine Emmy nominations, including one for Danes, with Rhys winning for best lead actor in a limited or anthology series. (He won't return for Season 2, though, since — spoiler alert! — Nile was arrested and then killed in prison in the Season 1 finale.)

"The series captivated global audiences, delivered extraordinary performances led by Claire Danes, and earned Matthew Rhys a historic Emmy win. We are incredibly proud of what Howard Gordon, Gabe Rotter, and the entire cast and crew achieved. We can't wait for audiences to see what Howard and Daniel Pearle have in store for the next season."
