How To Survive Without Me, Family Drama Starring Ray Romano, Kaley Cuoco, And Joshua Jackson, Lands 15-Episode Order At HBO Max

After successfully launching "The Pitt," a medical drama with a supersized-for-streaming episode count released annually, HBO Max is hoping to replicate that success with a family drama led by some pretty big names: The streamer has handed a 15-episode series order to "How to Survive Without Me," starring Ray Romano, Kaley Cuoco, Joshua Jackson, and Rita Wilson.

The hourlong series, from Greg Berlanti and Berlanti Productions, centers on the sprawling De Angelis family. Romano stars as patriarch Leo, opposite Wilson as his late wife, Beverly.

Here's the official logline: "In the wake of matriarch Beverly's passing, the De Angelis family have begun to drift, unsure how to manage their complicated, evolving lives without her guidance, but in true Beverly fashion, she found a way to keep running the show from the beyond. Should they wish to experience Beverly's final work, the family must find the time — and make the effort — to remain connected and be there for each other through all of life's challenges yet to come."

Cuoco ("The Big Bang Theory") plays eldest daughter Kate, "who inherited her mother's perfectionism, elegance, and organizational prowess. Balancing her own marriage and motherhood, along with a full-time job as an interior designer, Kate presents an immaculate image to the world — but her perfect facade masks deeper wounds she's never fully addressed."

Jackson ("The Affair"), meanwhile, plays Cooper, a chef on the verge of starting a major new business. Though he's outwardly confident and a "player," he's got a secret that could bring it all tumbling down. (The role reunites Jackson with Berlanti, who wrote and executive-produced "Dawson's Creek.")

Julia Schlaepfer ("1923") plays their sister Liz, a "gorgeous mess" who "inherited Beverly's gift for storytelling, but not her discipline."

Rounding out the series-regular ensemble — all playing members of the De Angelis family — are Jack Ball ("Chicago P.D."), Kylar Miranda ("Minx"), Julian Grey ("Fear the Walking Dead"), Scarlett Abinante ("Animal Kingdom"), Tommy Dewey ("Casual"), Matthew Kellison, Colette Porch ("Hal & Harper"), and Ella Rubin ("Sterling Point").

Guest stars include Dar Zuzovsky ("Vanished"), Genevieve Angelson ("The Chicken Sisters"), Joe Romano ("Somewhere In Queens"), Katie Aselton ("The Morning Show"), Katie Monds ("Chicago P.D."), Kevin Changaris ("Succession"), Pressley Hosbach ("New Amsterdam"), Richard Blackmon ("NCIS: Origins"), Sofía Rodríguez-Toymil, and Will Yun Lee ("The Good Doctor").

Berlanti, who created the WB classic "Everwood," also reflected on returning to the genre more than two decades later: "The first show I ever created was a family drama, almost exactly 25 years before this one was picked up. It's been incredibly emotional to return to this kind of storytelling and I'm so grateful to Casey, Sarah, Joey and everyone at HBO Max for asking, to Channing, Brett and Clancy and the Warner Bros. team, and finally our brilliant cast — Ray, Kaley, Josh, Rita and the rest of our extraordinary ensemble and crew. To also co-create it with Bash and my husband, Robbie, and draw from our own families' experiences of love and loss has made the whole show the most personal thing I've worked on in years."
