Ransom Canyon Canceled After Two Seasons At Netflix

Netflix is putting "Ransom Canyon" in its rearview mirror, canceling the romantic neo-Western after two seasons, Deadline reports.

Based on the book series by Jodi Thomas, "Ransom Canyon" starred Josh Duhamel ("Las Vegas") as brooding cowboy Staten Kirkland, who divides his time between fighting for control of his family's ranch and fighting his various inner demons; and Minka Kelly ("Friday Night Lights") as Quinn O'Grady, a classically trained pianist who just can't fight the allure of her Texas hometown — or of her lifelong flame Staten.

Other key residents of the titular town included girl-next-door Lauren Brigman (Lizzy Greene), who finds herself torn between brothers Lucas (Garrett Wareing) and Kit Russell (Casey W. Johnson); and dancehall owner Ellie Estevez (Marianly Tejada), whose tumultuous relationship with bad boy Yancy Grey (Jack Schumacher) lands her in hot water — and makes her a mother.

Season 2 also introduced viewers to Staten's half-brother Levi, played by Steve Howey ("High Potential," "Shameless"), who was practically unrecognizable in this bearded new role. Duhamel told TVLine that he'd "love to see [Levi] come back and see what kind of relationship happens from there" in a future season, which is sadly not meant to be. "Levi always felt like an outsider, so I'd be very curious to see how he handles that," Duhamel said. "After all these years, would you try to acclimate to the family, or would you try to rebel against it?"

April Blair served as showrunner for "Ransom Canyon," executive-producing alongside Duhamel, Kelly, Joe Fazzio, Dan Angel, Amanda Marsalis, Adam Milch, Kelli Breslin, Neil Reynolds, and Bradley Gardner.

Though Quinn returned from New York with a handsome new boyfriend named Oliver (Ben Robson) at the beginning of "Ransom Canyon" Season 2, she had broken up with him and reunited with Staten by the end of the finale. And with her mother (Patricia Clarkson) selling their old family farmhouse, Quinn even agreed to move in with Staten at the Double K Ranch.

When asked about a potential wedding for Staten and Quinn in the future, Minka Kelly told TVLine, "I think we first have to see if they're capable of domesticated life together." She noted that it was time for the couple to face some important questions: "Now you've gotten everything you wanted, but can you handle it? Do you still choose each other after seeing the worst in each other? What does that all look like?"

Elsewhere, Kit was prepared to leave town for a new job in Wyoming, but Lucas (of all people!) convinced Lauren to chase after him; and after giving birth to their baby girl, Ellie asked Yancy to leave, unsure of whether she could trust him after everything that went down this season with Sidney.
