Andi Mack‘s mama drama isn’t over just yet.
Disney Channel has renewed the single-camera comedy for Season 2, just eight episodes into its freshman run, TVLine has learned.
Created by Lizzie McGuire vet Terri Minsky, Andi Mack stars newcomer Peyton Elizabeth Lee as the eponymous tween, whose life is turned upside down when she discovers that her cooler, older, motorcycle-riding sister Bex is actually her mother, and the people she’s always thought of as her mom and dad are actually her grandparents.
“There is not another series out right now – on any platform – that speaks to our core demographic with the authenticity and insight that [Minsky] and her creative team have captured with Andi Mack,” Gary Marsh, president and CCO of Disney Channel, said in a statement. “This series and these characters are well on their way to becoming this generation’s Lizzie McGuire.”
In light of the renewal, Disney Channel will air a “Back-to-Back Andi Mack” marathon, beginning Friday, May 26 at 5/4c, to catch viewers up on the first eight half-hours. The comedy with also air four weeks of new episodes each Friday in June, during which Andi will become convinced that ‘rents Bex and Bowie are meant to be together.
