Jack Ryan just got a boss who’s used to working a case on TV.
The Wire alum Wendell Pierce has joined the cast of Amazon’s upcoming reboot series Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, our sister site Deadline reports, which stars The Office‘s John Krasinski as a young Jack Ryan taking on his first CIA field assignment. Pierce will play James Greer, Ryan’s new boss and a former CIA case officer.
Pierce’s role is reportedly a main character on the show, which already has been ordered straight-to-series. That raises more doubts that we’ll see another season of CBS’ The Odd Couple, where Pierce has a regular role as Oscar’s pal Teddy. (CBS announced last month they’ve capped the current season of The Odd Couple at 13 episodes, so a fourth-season renewal seems unlikely.)
Pierce is still probably best known as Baltimore homicide detective “Bunk” Moreland from HBO’s acclaimed crime drama The Wire, but he’s been working steadily on the small screen for decades. Just this year, along with his roles on The Odd Couple and Suits, he played Clarence Thomas in the HBO biopic Confirmation and Coach Calhoun in Fox’s Grease: Live.
