Ratings: Empire Returns From Month Break to Series Lows, Still Tops Night

Fox’s Empire returned from its month-long break to 8.1 million total viewers and a 2.9 rating, down 13 and 17 percent from its last fresh episode to mark series lows, though it still dominated the night in the demo.

Opening Fox’s line-up, Lethal Weapon (7 mil/1.8) was up 6 percent and a tenth.

Elsewhere on the night….

THE CW | Arrow (1.96 mil/0.7) rose 25 and 16 percent from its previous outing (opposite the World Series), drawing its largest audience of the season. Frequency (1.1 mil/0.3) was steady.

CBS | Survivor (8.8 mil/1.9) and Code Black (6 mil/0.9) rose three and two tenths, respectively, while Criminal Minds (7.2 mil/1.3) slipped 6 and 19 percent to series lows.

NBC | Blindspot (4.9 mil/1.0) and SVU (5.5 mil/1.3) ticked down, while Chicago PD (5.7 mil/1.3) was steady.

ABC | The Goldbergs (6.4 mil/2.0) hit best-since-premiere numbers, while Speechless (5.6 mil/1.7) and Modern Family (7.2 mil/2.3) ticked up. Both black-ish (5.3 mil/1.6) and Designated Survivor (5.6 mil/1.2) dipped a tenth, with the latter now at half of its premiere numbers.
