Warning: The following doesn’t just contain spoilers for the Season 7 premiere of The Walking Dead, it contains big ol’ bashed-in skull-shaped spoilers. So if you’ve yet to watch the episode, proceed no further.
Eeny, meeny, miny, oh s—. As the Season 7 premiere of The Walking Dead got underway Sunday evening, we at long last learned the identity of the unfortunate character whose head Negan had used for batting practice as the Season 6 finale drew to a close back in April: R.I.P., Abraham.
But Michael Cudlitz’s alter ego turned out not to be the only casualty of the gory scene. After unleashing Lucille on Eugene’s BFF, the Saviors’ merciless leader also brutally “struck out” — as Robert Kirkman’s comic-book series warned us he would — Glenn, played by Steven Yeun since Season 1.
Throughout the killings, as showrunner Scott Gimple previously warned TVLine, the AMC drama “spared no drop of awfulness, no iota of misery, no scintilla of pain” — which made the opening damn hard to sit through. (At least without a bucket to barf into.)
How are you doing? We know Rick & Co. will be able to carry on somehow? Will you? Would you have preferred someone else bite the dust?
