Shadowhunters @ Comic Con: Premiere Date Revealed, Paul Wesley to Direct in Season 2 — Plus: Watch Exclusive Clip

One of the CW’s veteran vamps is paying a visit to Shadowhunters — behind the scenes, at least — in Season 2.

Paul Wesley is set to direct an episode of the Freeform drama’s sophomore outing, it was revealed Saturday during the show’s panel at New York Comic Con. The Vampire Diaries star taped a special announcement for fans, which you can enjoy in full below:

Also confirmed at the panel — which was attended by stars Katherine McNamara, Dominic Sherwood, Alberto Rosende, Matthew Daddario, Emeraude Toubia, Isaiah Mustafa and Harry Shum, Jr., as well as several executive producers and Mortal Instruments author Cassandra Clare — was the series’ Season 2 premiere date: Set your DVRs for Monday, Jan. 2 at 8/7c.

Several scenes from the upcoming season were also screened during the panel, one of which TVLine has exclusively for you to enjoy at the top of this post. Per Freeform, here’s the official description for the upcoming season:

In the January 2 premiere, the Shadow World is in upheaval as Valentine and The Circle continue to grow stronger by the minute, while our Shadowhunter team quickly becomes disillusioned with The Clave and their reaction to the recent events. Loyalties will be tested, unlikely bonds will be made and relationships will be pushed to the limit as the Shadowhunters and their Downworlder friends make their way in a new world.
