Colbert and Meyers to Trump: 'F—k You' for Blaming Birtherism on Clinton

Stephen Colbert and Seth Meyers each decimated Donald Trump on Monday for insinuating that Hillary Clinton led the movement that claimed President Barack Obama wasn’t born in the United States.

The Late Show and Late Night hosts put all of their cards on the table amid lengthy fact-checking segments that proved the Republican presidential nominee actually led the birtherism movement, since as early as 2011.

“Here’s the deal: You don’t get to flog this issue for five years and then act like you’re correcting everybody else,” Colbert said. “We’re not crazy. We were there. We all saw you do it. Even the people who support you saw you do it. It’s why they support you!”

Both hosts chastised Trump for implying that it was up to him to “finish” the birther movement by declaring that our Commander-in-Chief was born in the U.S. during a press conference at one of his hotels, half a decade after Obama released his full birth certificate. At one point, Colbert and Meyers looked into the camera and, word for word, expressed the exact same sentiment: “F—k you, exclamation point.”

“[Q]uestioning the legitimacy of the first black president was the centerpiece of Donald Trump’s political career,” Meyers argued. “You don’t get to peddle racist rhetoric… and decide when it’s over. We decide when it’s over ― and it’s certainly not over after a 30-second statement in the middle of a hotel commercial … The bottom line is this: Trump built his career on a racist lie because he’s a racist and a liar.”
