Atlanta: Donald Glover Tries to Catch a Rising Hip-Hop Star in First Trailer

Actor/rapper Donald Glover (aka Childish Gambino) is aiming to cash in on his kin in the first full-length trailer for Atlanta (premiering Tuesday, Sept. 6).

The new FX series finds the two-time Grammy nominee playing Earnest “Earn” Marks, a college dropout who attempts to make a splash in the Atlanta music scene by managing the budding career of his cousin Alfred aka Paperboy (Vice Principals‘ Brian Tyree Henry). Along the way, opposing views on art-versus-commerce, success and race arise. Keith Stanfield (Straight Outta Compton) co-stars.

Glover recently made headlines when he spoke out about his decision not to return for the Community series finale, telling journalists at the Television Critics Association summer press tour that Troy’s time at Greendale had simply run its course.

“It’s important that things end,” Glover said. “I’m glad things end because it forces things to progress. I get really frustrated in the world because I see a lot of things that could be better but aren’t, because things haven’t died yet.”
