Arrow: Tyler Ritter Nabs Recurring Role

Star City PD is staffing up in the wake of Captain Lance’s firing.

Arrow has booked Tyler Ritter (The McCarthys) to join the Season 5 cast in the recurring role of Detective Malone, SCPD’s newest cop, TVLine has confirmed.

Ritter joins a growing list of Season 5 newbies that also includes Chicago P.D.’s Josh Segarra (in the series-regular role of D.A. Adrian Chase aka Vigilante), Reaper alum Rick Gonzalez as the DC Comics character Wild Dog and The Walking Dead‘s Chad L. Coleman as new villain Tobias Church.

In addition to his lead role in CBS’ short-lived sitcom The McCarthys, Ritter has guest-starred on CBS’ NCIS, ABC’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Freeform’s Young & Hungry.

The Hollywood Reporter first broke the Ritter news.

In a recent Facebook chat with fans, Arrow leading man Stephen Amell teased that the Season 5 premiere “has the opportunity for us to have the most vicious, violent one-shot in the history of network television” — meaning a long, continuous take with no cuts.

“If [the premiere] is any indication, Arrow is going to be f–king mean this year,” he added, “and that’s really exciting.”

Arrow Season 5 bows Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 8/7c, now leading into the new series Frequency.

  1. Jennifer says:

I’m sorry … “Captain Lance’s exit” ??? Did I miss something? Is Paul Blackthorne leaving, or just his character fired?

  2. Steven says:

Tyler Ritter and his brother are really great comedic actors. It’s a shame they haven’t found the right vehicles.

  3. Jason says:

Arrow season five is starting to look like a reboot

  4. Arrowette says:

I never knew the actor Paul B. was leaving the show. Officially that was never announced if that was the case that was a bad move from the CW network.

    • lrdslvrhnd says:

He’s not. Lance left the force (a little matter of collaborating with a supervillain and all his activities with Team Arrow), Blackthorne didn’t leave the show. There’s a difference.

  5. If paul was leaving the show TV line would have reported it come on guys don’t read too much into stuff

  6. K says:

I’m on the fence about continuing after them killing off Laurel and the show turning into a huge sausage fest isn’t helping. Blah.

  7. Grace says:

That is a lot of men they’ve added to the new season, on a show where women are already really outnumbered. Kinda weak. Plus, stop adding new characters! Focus on the ones people like already.

  8. Angus says:

Looks so much like his dad.

  9. LADY_in_MD says:

Him and his brother look so much like their Dad when he guest starred on Young and Hungry I swear there were some faces he made that made me think of John Ritter as Jack on Threes Company

  10. N says:

This show is a sausage fest

  11. Couch Mom says:

He looks so much like his dad. Has his smile and looks.

  12. Wendy says:

Yep – what this show really needs is another white hipster dude to fix it.

  13. Max says:

I would like to see Blackthorne return as a superhero of some sort and join the Arrow team.

  14. HAP says:

The Ritter clan has done so well in Hollywood. Grandpa Tex started making westerns in 1936, but may be best known for singing the theme song, written by Dmitri Tiomkin in the 1952 classic High Noon.

  15. Sheila D Price says:

Laurel was a horrible as Black Canary, she had no storyline. I hate when shows kill what was working. Why end Olicity when they can take that union further. Go with what’s good. Laurel had no reason joining the team, she continuously had bruises, and she was the one who caused all that confusion.

  16. rahajicho says:

Knowing Arrow, they’re going to introduce six new charaters and only one will be slightly developed.

  17. Laura says:

He looks so much like his father, it breaks my heart :( Also a great actor like John, can’t wait to tune in!

  18. R.O.B. says:

I’d love for them to change up the fighting choreography already. They almost look like they are square dancing at this point. Showrunners, study up on Daredevil this summer. Those fights are more unpredictable and Murphy actually gets hurt depending on where and how hard they hit him. And for the love, give us a season without flashbacks, especially starring actors with terrible Russian accents.

  19. George H. says:

Never heard of Tyler Ritter before reading this story, and before I even read his name in the headline, I seen his picture and I knew he was John Ritter’s son because he has his dad’s goofy smile and eyes.
