Mr. Robot - Season 2 Review

Video: Mr. Robot Stars and Creator Preview Darker Season 2, Elliot's Mission to Cure Himself 'At All Costs'

Elliot Anderson wants to remove Mr. Robot from his life “at all costs,” now that he knows what the devil on his shoulder really is. Mr. Robot, however, “is not having any” of that. So say Rami Malek and Christian Slater, two of the stars of the acclaimed USA Network series in this series of videos teeing up Season 2 (premiering Wednesday, July 13 at 10/9c).

Mr. Robot stars Malek as Elliot, a cyber-security engineer who in Season 1 was recruited by the underground hacker group known as fsociety. Following the events of fsociety’s 5/9 hack on the megaconglomerate dubbed “Evil Corp,” Season 2 explores the consequences of that attack as well as the illusion of control.

Control, Malek says in the first video below, is something Elliot is feverishly trying to regain — especially since his first days in the wake of 5/9 are still unaccounted for. Slater, meanwhile, argues that Mr. Robot is a “vital” piece of Elliot’s psyche. Other featurettes feature series creator Sam Esmail (who touts the “darker,” more “ensemble”-like sophomore season), plus female leads Carly Chaikin and Portia Doubleday, who play Darlene and Angela.

Other Season 2 regulars include Martin Wallström and Stephanie Corneliussen (as Tyrell and Joanna Wellick), Michael Cristofer (E-Corp CEO Phillip Price) and Grace Gummer (joining the cast as Dominique “Dom” DiPierro, an FBI agent investigating the 5/9 hack), while new recurring players include Craig Robinson (The Office), hip hop artist Joey Bada$$, Sandrine Holt (Hostages), Michael Maize, Dorothi Fox (The Onion News Network) and Luke Robertson (The Americans).

Season 1 of Mr. Robot is currently available via Amazon Prime.
