Almost 24 hours after the news broke that ABC’s Castle would not be asking back Stana Katic for a possible Season 9, series star Nathan Fillion has offered his first thoughts on his leading lady’s exit.
“Stana has been my partner all this time, and I thank her for creating the character of Beckett,” the actor shared in a message posted to Twitter. “I wish her well, and have no doubt she will succeed in everything she pursues. She will be missed.”
As for the series’ unavoidably new incarnation should it be renewed for Season 9, Fillion wrote, “Castle has been one of the greatest joys of my creative life, and I hope the show continues in for years to come.”
In the more immediate wake of the casting shake-up, Castle costars Jon Huertas, Seamus Dever and Susan Sullivan each offered their knee-jerk reactions to the news, while Tamala Jones issued a statement on her own ouster. Series creator Andrew W. Marlowe meanwhile declared himself “heartbroken” over the chain of events.
Molly Quinn broke her silence overnight, to be reported on under separate cover.
