Grease: Live Welcomes Boyz II Men as Surprising Trio of Teen Angels

Grease Live Boyz II Men

Why settle for one angel when you can have an entire heavenly flock?

That’s clearly Grease: Live‘s philosophy, as Fox announced on Wednesday that R&B group Boyz II Men will be playing the part of Teen Angel in the Jan. 31 (7/6c) production.

For those who don’t speak fluent Grease, the character of Teen Angel appears in a vision to Frenchy (played here by Carly Rae Jepsen), who needs a little cheering up after deciding to drop out of beauty school — hence the song he performs, “Beauty School Dropout.” The role was famously played by singer Frankie Avalon in the 1978 movie version.

Boyz II Men — comprised of Nathan Morris, Shawn Stockman and Wanya Morris — joins previously announced cast members Aaron Tveit (Danny), Julianne Hough (Sandy), Vanessa Hudgens (Rizzo), Carlos PenaVega (Kenickie), Keke Palmer (Marty), Kether Donohue (Jan) and Mario Lopez (Vince Fontaine).

Additionally, singer Jessie J will open the show with a live performance of “Grease (Is the Word),” a song written by Barry Gibb for the 1978 movie.
