Urban Cowboy Pilot DOA at Fox

Fox’s Urban Cowboy is riding off into the sunset.

The network has opted not to move forward with its reimagining of the 1980 John Travolta film.

According to our sister site Deadline, Fox made the decision not to proceed with the potential series after viewing the completed pilot.

Per the official logline, Fox’s update of Urban Cowboy planned to follow “two star-crossed young lovers, as they pursue their dreams and passions through the sweat of line-dancing in honky-tonks, the grime of the oil refineries and the glamor of modern Texas. It’s about family legacies, starting over, finding true love and the American dream.”

Alfonso Herrera (Sense8), Nathalie Kelley (UnREAL), Edward James Olmos (Battlestar Galactica), Jim Belushi (According to Jim) and Riley Smith (True Blood) had been cast in the project.
