TVLine Items: Misty Copeland's Dance Drama, a Casual Renewal and More

Fox’s latest small-screen venture is seriously en pointe.

The network has teamed with acclaimed ballerina Misty Copeland to develop a drama set in the world of dance, our sister site Deadline reports.

The as-yet-untitled project centers on a young, diverse group of aspiring hoofers as they compete for places in a top ballet company.

Tracy Oliver (Survivor’s Remorse) will write the script and exec-produce with Copeland, Brian Dobbins, Peter Principato and Paul Young.

Anyone else watching Casual? I like it. It’s low-key vibe showcases very good performances from the leads. Yes, it’s about more damaged people living in LA and casually damaging others, but it’s not boring like that sentence sounds. Also, it’s nice to see Tommy Dewey a) make it to series from a pilot and b) naked.

I have watched the first 3 episodes and am liking the show as well. Reminds me a bit of Transparent with the damaged/messed up/sometimes unlikeable characters living in Los Angeles. Hopefully Michaela Watkins gets at least some traction in the Emmy race next year, she is very good.

Isn’t EPIX coming out with a drama about dancers trying to make it big soon?
