Justin Theroux Jogging

The Leftovers' Justin Theroux Opens Up About Sweatpants-Gate Fallout: 'No Jogging Scenes' in Season 2

Kevin’s workout routine is making a sudden departure on The Leftovers.

In the wake of the Internet frenzy that erupted in Season 1 when Justin Theroux left little to the imagination during one of his character’s jogging scenes, the actor admits that the show’s forthcoming second season finds Kevin moving at a much slower pace.

“There are no jogging scenes,” Theroux tells TVLine with a laugh. “His athletic routine has really taken a dive. No running around.”

When asked if any specific precautions have been taken to prevent the Leftovers conversation from once again being hijacked by GIF culture, Theroux deadpans, “Chastity belt?”

All joking aside, Theroux admits he was “surprised” when images and video of his quasi-wardrobe malfunction started racing around the web. “Nip-slips happen… that was one of those moments,” he muses. “I wouldn’t say I was pleasantly surprised. I was just kind of like, ‘Oh, boy.’ You don’t want anything to take attention away from the show.”

For his part, Leftovers co-creator Damon Lindelof insists sweatpants-gate has not had any creative impact on the HBO drama’s 10-episode second season (premiering Sunday). “I can honestly look you in the eyes and say that I have been part of no dong-related conversations ever,” he maintains with a bemused grin. “Justin is the protector of his own manhood. And if he chooses to flaunt it, then I celebrate that. If he wants to be more discreet about it, then I embrace that as well.

“I did not expect it to be a thing,” Lindelof adds, “and I have no intention of writing towards it this season.”

I don’t even watch this show, but thanks for linking to a scene.
    This is hilarious.

  2. Alexa says:

I loved the first season of this show so much that even the retirement of my favorite scenes will not prevent me for being there for the season 2 premiere – with bells on.

This is the best interview and article ever.

I am a true fan of this show. I find it refreshingly thought-provoking. It’s pretty nice to be able to get excited about television again. I can’t say that I’ve been this ‘into’ any of the more recent shows save for Grey’s Anatomy and How To Get Away With Murder and then there was FRIENDS back in my college days (coincidentally Mr. Theroux is married to one of its stars). I’m really looking forward to Season Two of The Leftovers.

  5. I watch this show and totally don’t remember seeing that but am so glad TVLine linked to the clip LOL

How did I not notice the first time?!

  7. dancmh says:

That’s too bad. It was the only thing interesting about season one.

  8. Jeri says:

I watched most of the 1st season, I thought it was about him jogging commando in his sweats which would be a deliberate choice on his part. Was not aware (& did not hear of) a dong slip.

MERCY. And he didn’t get an EMMY nomination for that?
