Diane: It’s early Sunday morning and some fresh Twin Peaks intel just fell into my lap.
Brothers & Sisters vet Balthazar Getty has joined the cast of Showtime’s forthcoming continuation of the ’90s classic, sources confirm to me exclusively.
It’s not clear if Getty is playing a new character or taking over an existing one (rumors abound that at least one major role from the original series has been recast).
A Showtime rep declined to comment.
News of Getty’s casting comes just days after we reported that Big Love‘s Amanda Seyfried landed a major role in the anticipated revival.
Twin Peaks co-creators David Lynch and Mark Frost have penned all episodes of the present-day continuation — which will total more than the originally announced nine hours — with Lynch directing every installment. Filming is currently underway in Washington state.
At the Television Critics Association summer press tour in August, Showtime president David Nevins hinted that fans can expect “familiar faces” to join returning cast member Kyle MacLachlan. “You should be optimistic that the people that you want [back] will be there, and then there will be some surprises in addition.”
