American Crime Story: The People v. OJ Simpson Teaser Gives Voice to the Trial's Iconic Players

“I like to win. This case is a loser.”

So declares flamboyant defense attorney Johnny Cochran (played by Courtney B. Vance) in FX’s sparse but intriguing first teaser trailer for American Crime Story: The People v. OJ Simpson.

Three other key players in the star-studded cast can be heard over ominous piano music and against stark black-and-white typeface: Cuba Gooding Jr. (as Simpson), Sarah Paulson (as prosecutor Marcia Clark) and John Travolta (as Robert Shapiro).

It’s Clark’s proclamation, though, that will most certainly come back to haunt her by the end of the 10-episode event series.

American Crime Story, which focuses on Simpson being accused, then ultimately acquitted of killing his wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, is slated to air in February. The cast also includes David Schwimmer (as Robert Kardashian), Connie Britton (as Faye Resnick), Selma Blair (as Kris Jenner)

The series — the latest from Ryan Murphy (American Horror Story, Glee) — will be based on Jeffrey Toobin’s book The Run of His Life: The People V. O.J. Simpson, which, according to FX, “explores the chaotic behind-the-scenes dealings and maneuvering on both sides of the court, and how a combination of prosecution overconfidence, defense shrewdness, and the LAPD’s history with the city’s African-American community gave a jury what it needed: reasonable doubt.”

American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson is being written by Golden Globe-winning producers Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski (Big Eyes, The People v. Larry Flynt); Murphy will direct the first episode.
