Ryan Phillippe‘s latest TV role is Rated O… for Ooh Rah!
The Secrets and Lies star has signed on for the lead role in USA Network’s upcoming drama pilot Shooter — based on the 2007 big-screen hit of the same name starring Mark Wahlberg and the Stephen Hunter novel Point of Impact that served as its source material.
According to the network, Phillippe will play Bob Lee Swagger, “an off-the-grid former Marine sniper who is coaxed into action to thwart the killing of the President. Ultimately double-crossed and framed for the attempt, he must call upon all the skills he acquired as a decorated Marine sharpshooter to avoid capture while hunting down and exposing the traitors who set him up.”
Wahlberg, whose previous producing credits include Boardwalk Empire and Entourage, will serve as EP alongside Stephen Levinson (Boardwalk Empire, Ballers) and Lorenzo di Bonaventura (Transformers, The Real O’Neals). The Shield‘s John Hlavin wrote the pilot and will also executive produce, while Simon Cellan Jones (Ballers) is set to direct.
