TVLine Items: Power Renewed, Voice Season 9 Coaches Named and More

Power Season 2 Preview

Starz has gone on a serious Power trip.

Less than a week after its Season 2 debut, the crime drama has been renewed for a 10-episode third season, the premium cabler announced Wednesday.

Power‘s June 6 season premiere brought in 1.4 million total viewers — tripling its June 2014 series debut, up 32 percent versus its freshman finale and delivering the largest audience ever for a Starz season premiere.

Production on Season 3 will begin in Brooklyn this September, with a premiere slated for 2016.

Ready for more of today’s newsy nuggets? Well…

* Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani and Pharrell Williams will serve as coaches on The Voice Season 9, which premieres in September.

* Syfy is teaming with exec producers Bradley Cooper, Graham King (Argo) and Todd Phillips (The Hangover) to develop Hyperion, an event series based on Dan Simmons’ 1989 novel. The sci-fi project tells the story of seven pilgrims who — on the eve of Armageddon with the entire galaxy at war — set forth on a voyage in search of answers to the unsolved riddles of their lives.

* Colman Domingo (Selma) will recur on Fear The Walking Dead as Strand, a smart and sophisticated man with a mysterious past, Deadline reports.

    I love Rectify!

  2. Mr. Tran K says:

Great to see Gwen Stefani back for the upcoming season of The Voice. Wonder if they should bring Christina back just like it did when she took over for Gwen.

    • "A" Has Returned says:

She didn’t “take over for Gwen”. Gwen substituted for Christina while she was out due to her pregnancy. Shakira was in her place for season 6 and Gwen was in her place for season 7. Christina just decided to take another break. I wish Blake or Adam could take a break, too.

  3. Mr. Tran K says:

CBS Daytime better end The Price is Right sometime in the near future and I really can’t stand Drew Carey as host because he’s still not in Bob Barker’s shadow and in every episode he talks too much. My advice to Drew Carey: better have his own talk show ’cause hosting a game show is a crappy idea.

  4. bj says:

Power is a great series. I’m really happy to know it won’t end after this season.

  5. Jasper says:

I thought for sure that Adam was going to take a break, considering his attitude during Season 8. I guess no Cher, then. Nice to see Gwen back in the chair. Hopefully she’s learned from her Season 7 experience like Pharrell and can snag a truly talented singer, like Sawyer or Kimberly.

  6. greysfan says:

NBC seriously need to “rest” Adam. He’s bringing the whole show down.

  7. Ron says:

Anxiously awaiting Rectify. Such an amazing show!

Not that anyone cares, but looks like I’ll be sitting out season 9 of The Voice (like I did season 7). I seriously just can’t take Adam anymore. He’s annoying, so full of himself, and thinks he’s above it all–or that’s how he acts at least. I only returned watching season 8 to see Christina’s return. All season, Adam was clearly just not in it. You could see he had little care dealing with his contestants. If Adam wouldn’t willingly sit out, then the producers should’ve forced him to. I mean, really, if any other coach on the show (especially Christina) told the crowd to shut up as often as he does, people would hate them. Yet somehow Adam gets a pass. Ugh, whatever. Rant over.

  8. Sue says:

Glad Gwen will be back! I love that Adam & Blake are the 2 constants on this show. Pharrell was great this season. These 4 make a great team!! Looking forward to the new season.

  9. Ram510 says:

So what’s Christina gonna be doing, why can’t she do cycle 9?
