The talk show cohost/actress revealed via a photo posted to Twitter that she will appear in the hour-long Season 9 opener, in scenes with Jason Segel. UPDATE: It has since been announced that Shepherd will in fact recur during the show’s swan song.

As previously scooped by TVLine’s Ask Ausiello column, the season premiere, titled “The Locket,” was casting the role of Camille, an African-American or Latina female who is seated next to Marshall on a flight from Minnesota to NYC. The character becomes so annoyed with Marshal’s erratic behavior that a confrontation ensues and they are both escorted off the plane prior to take-off.

Well, Sherri = Camille, who is now named Daphne.

“We’re all extremely excited to have Sherri Shepherd joining HIMYM for an arc in Season 9!” series co-creator Craig Thomas said in a statement. “She is hilarious and delightful and perfect for this part — we couldn’t be more thrilled!”

  1. E says:

So they tell us what happens in the wedding at the beginning of last season and then rewind so the whole season has little to no mystery. Now the entire final season will be devoted to a wedding weekend of which we already know the outcome? Like getting 7/8 of the way through a book, reading the last page, and then going back and finishing from where you left off. Makes no sense.

    • Ann says:

They might be filling gaps in the story, for instance, where the mother has been doing all the time. And I can see them doing several fast forwards with Ted and the Mom and their kids.

  2. Tim says:

So scenes with the mother will be limited entirely to that weekend? Awful choice if that’s true.

    • Quinn Mallory says:

Supposedly, that’s what they have been saying. I would not be surprised with plenty of the episodes flashing both backward and forward in time though.

  3. shuayb says:

I was seriously hoping that they would change the way the gameplan for season 9 but it seems they r going ahead with this ridic concept…. Ugh… Whatever we know what happens n we know who she is. I’m over this now will just read the recaps n reviews when I can.

    • Zach says:

OK the show is not called “WHO Is Your Mother?” It’s called HOW I Met Your Mother. The point of the show is to find out HOW she and Ted meet.

      • Tim says:

But she’s been identified, doing an entire season based on what could at most be 4 hours is pointless.

        • Smartacus says:

Again, you’re missing the point. It doesn’t matter that she’s been identified to us as the audience, Ted still hasn’t met her. There’s been plenty of times where we’ve seen scenes ahead of time and had a lot of story in between (ted picking up a woman in a dress). To want to get to the end and skip the story is lazy and you’d be pissed if they just divulged all that immediately. To reiterate Zach, it is called HOW I met your mother. By your reasoning we know that he meets the mother so the show should be done. THAT would be pointless. Lawyered

  4. Teag says:

There will still be flashbacks and flashforwards, people.

  5. Dude says:

i hate the idea of the concept for season 9 bur trust the writers, dont let this sitcom go out with a wimper

  6. Philip says:

This is the reason why Sherri was not there for Bitsy’s last day!

    • TV Gord says:

She was actually in L.A. last week to work on Chris Rock’s film, Finally Famous. I guess this guest spot was a bonus.

    • brutony says:

Bitsy? Apparently, youre another clueless lib! Enjoy the conservative-free View-should be smashing, yeah?

  7. Mr John says:

Give ’em a chance. They re taking a difficult path, but if you’ve stuck with the show for this long, you should have faith that they know how to close it out. The show has had ups and downs, but generally, they’ve done it right so far and been one of the best sit coms of the lat 20 years.

  8. SarahJ says:

I’ve had it with this show. I’m sticking with it out of habit and determination to see the end, but the last 2 seasons have been dreadful. It lost something along the way, and now the humor feels forced.

  9. Colleen says:

Can she please channel Angie Jordan aka Queen of Jordan? #HAM

  10. luke says:

This woman is dumber than a nostril hair. The things she sometimes says…

  11. jennyquack says:

I really cannot stand her. I’m sort of dreading this season…after enduring the last couple of years, to find out the entire last season takes place over one weekend, and now this. Thankful for the mute button.

  12. Steve says:

Sherri is lucky that Barbra Walters and ABC/The View are so generous with her time and allow her to do all her acting roles. Of course with the new season launching in the Fall without 2 cast members, they need the publicity. But still…This is why a show like The View is so powerful. Its like being cast on a Real Housewives. Its not about the show and your salary; its about the opportunities you get. Besides getting more acting roles cuz she’s now famous, Sherri hosts The Newlywed game, was on Dancing with the Stars, just released a book and is also selling a wig line…Shes also hosted the Oscars previews online and the Daytime Emmy Awards on ABC> and had her wedding televised (and likely paid for and got paid for) Lets not forget she was the star of a self titled sitcom on Lifetime (although that show got cancelled because it was awful). Among other things. Isnt a reality show with her hubby and son down the line????Maybe if she decides to have a second baby by surrogate, that would be a good idea…plus there has to be some diabetes sponsorship upcoming (heck Paula Deen is out)

  13. Paula Tamburro says:

Robyn and Barney, will not end up getting married. She will realize that she should be with Ted eventually. It will take the whole season. They will get married by the end of the show. Because Robyn cannot have children of her own, she will get eggs donated by Cristin Miliot or she will be a surrogate She is the mother that Ted is explaining about to his children. This season will be all about Robyn leaving Barney at the alter and the aftermath of that. As far as I can tell this is about as plausible as anything else that has happened on this show.

    • juliet says:

that’s what i’ve been thinking lately, but it is also be my nightmare because i adore barney-robin so much,,,i just hope they make a happy ending story for all,,,

    • Jessica says:

I don’t think they would have referred to her as “aunt robin” this whole time then lol. But at the end of last seasons i was wondering how Ted could possibly love anyone but Robin!

  14. brutony says:

Sitting next to Shepherd, on a flight from Minn to NYC? Wheres the emergency exit?
