Comic-Con Burning Qs: Big Bang Theory Cast MIA? Bones' Emily Deschanel Attending After All?

blog_bbt_emily3_7.9.13Comic-Con 2013 is a little more than a week away, yet burning questions about the biggest geek convention in the galaxy remain. Below, we tackle  a few of those nagging unsolved mysteries.

Will the Big Bang Theory cast attend? | Sadly, no. CBS’ reigning geek squad will be MIA for the first time since the show’s launch. According to sources, scheduling was a contributing factor. Several of the show’s stars — including Jim Parsons — are off doing movies. (Parsons is in New York shooting Ryan Murphy’s Normal Heart). But SDCC won’t be completely Bazinga-free. A Q&A featuring the hit sitcom’s writers will be held Friday at 10 am in Ballroom 20.

A Bones panel without Emily Deschanel? Say it ain’t so! | It ain’t so! I can exclusively confirm that Deschanel will be joining leading man David Boreanaz, series creator Hart Hanson and exec producer Stephen Nathan at the show’s panel on Friday at 12:30 in Ballroom 20.

Which Persons of Interest can be expected? | The “TBD” castmembers on the Person of Interest panel can now be revealed. Michael Emerson, Jim Caviezel, Kevin Chapman, new series regular Sarah Shahi and recurring baddie Amy Acker will join EPs Jonathan Nolan and Greg Plageman (on Saturday, July 20 at 4 pm in Room 6BCF). Taraji P. Henson can’t make it, due to a long-standing charity commitment.

Will Friday’s Vikings event feature a glimpse at the History hit’s second season? | In a word, yes. Even though the drama just resumed production, a “quick Season 2 tease” will be screened for fans.

When will folks find out if they won a ticket to the 5th Annual Aushole Gathering? | The 80 lucky victors will be contacted via email in the next 24 hours. (I’ll send a Twitter alert the second notifications are sent, so you’re not needlessly sitting around waiting/wondering.) Also, to the 1,842 of you who do not score a pass, sources confirm to me exclusively that you will get a second chance via a super-fun contest. Stick close to TVLine’s Facebook page for details!

  1. Moms a TVFan77 says:

Hopefully the “Bones” folks won’t cancel at the last minute like last year.

  2. courts says:

Another question: can we make it through an entire Once Upon a Time panel without having to hear questions about whose sword fits in Emma’s super special sheath?

  3. Callie says:

Any news on whether or not Lana Parrilla will be at the Once Upon A Time Panel?

  4. Arien says:

to say last year’s Big Bang Panel was underwhelming is an overstatement. I’m not sad that they cut it back a bit this year.

    • chloe says:

i agree but paley fest was great this year so they can make these things work

    • Cassidy Hayes says:

can everyone but mayim bialik’s condescending presence be there? please? also, her biggest fan steve molaro can stay home, too. he’s ruined the show with his sappy storylines.

  5. Adriana says:

What about The Pretender?! The makers announced that they’re would be something at comic con.If it’s ressurected then why isn’t it on Tvline?

    • Danyelle says:

I read they’re not _AT_ Comic con but announcing something _DURING_ that week. I’m guessing just a graphic novel or something :-[

      • Adriana says:

I really hoped there would be something on comic con, but even if it’s just a graphic novel (which I do suspect too) it would be better than nothing.

  6. Just Jules says:

Wishing there was a Castle panel …

  7. ConfusedTvViewer says:

Sorry, why is “Bones” even at Comic Con?

    • Matthew says:

This is a question I’ve been asking myself for a long time, and about a lot of shows that aren’t just Bones. (*ahem*CASTLE*ahem*). Complete waist of time and space for a convention such as this. Make a “Wussy TV Romance-Con” if you want pannels for shows like Bones.

      • teach says:

        Waste not waist, Matthew.

      • Smiletime says:

I remember the round table from last year and David B saying he has gone most years since 1997!! Joshua Jackson said that David is still a bit of an icon there because of his Angel days.. Same can be said for Nathan Fillion I suppose although he rarely promotes Castle ( It was a Firefly reunion last year). I do know Bones has been part of comicon since their first season and they fill the hall so good luck to them :)

      • jjK says:

Agreed about Castle and Bones, they don’t need to be at SDCC. Now, Nathan Fillion is another matter, he’s one of the main attractions whatever panel he’s on. Boreanaz generates some geek interest as well, it’s just that he does way less nerdy things than Fillion, and seems like not as much into fan gatherings, so he can only come for Bones really (unless there’s some Buffy reunion). Of course it’s still not a “waste” (neither it is a “waist”) because plenty of people come to see these stars. It’s just less honest. And I watched some of those panels on YT, while Castle’s are always entertaining because of Fillion and the cast, it’s kinda painful to watch because all questions are about Firefly and his other projects. Even Castle questions are mostly for Nathan, and it’s not fair to other cast members. Of course SDCC without Fillion is not SDCC, but it’s better and more honest when he comes for other things. (Same with Bruce Campbell).

        • Bob says:

Why is ANY show NOT based on a comic/graphic novel there? COMIC Con. Get it? Answer: Without the TV stars/showrunners there, it would still be just another nerd fest like it was when it started.

    • Raven says:

Because Comic Con has turned into “Culture Con” So anything that is popular will be there whether it’s related to comics or not

  8. PaulH says:

Michael, why did SyFy send every one of its current scripted series to San Diego…EXCEPT Continuum? I know Rachel Nichols and Victor Webster are filming movies in Alabama and Romania, respectively, but the other cast would no doubt be happy to be there, and showrunner Simon Barry said in as many words they wanted to go, but SyFy said no. We need answers…

  9. smithbm2 says:

    Where is Parks and Rec???

  10. Fernando says:

Where is the GLEE panel?? It would have been a great chance to intro the updated cast.

  11. RJ says:

Which cast members of Revolution will be at their Comic Con panel along with Eric Kripke?

  12. mac says:

another good question would be: will Daniel Gillies be attending the ‘Originals’ panel ? Or is there a scheduling conflict with ‘Saving Hope’ ?

  13. Raven says:

Last year Peter Jackson said there wasn’t going to be a Hobbit Panel but then there was. Think there is a chance of that this year?

  14. POI Fan says:

I understand Mr Reese must speak softly when on the phone w sensitive intelligence but why must he whisper in a room where everyone else is speaking audibly in normal voices??? I watch the DVDs daily & LOVE LOVE LOVE the show but that breathy whispering is tedious to listen to.

    • SueZQ says:

The murmur, like the 99% of the time stern visage, is part of the Reese character.. And as much as I think Mr. C is well cast as Mr. Reese, I don’t think interviews are his favorite thing/comfort zone. Hence the murmuring. So, we shrug, sigh, and go back to watching DVDs of Season 1 and the weekly, if out of order, repeats of Season 2. (We had hog heaven for 3 weeks – episodes on both Tuesday and Thursday. Now we’re all retrained to watch on Tuesday at 10 p.m., so it’s back to once a week so they can somehow make the episodes left from season 2 fill 10 more weeks. Aarrgghh!!) Only 11 more weeks till Season 3, but hey, who’s counting?
