American Horror Story: Coven CastOscar-nominated actress Angela Bassett and Broadway legend Patti LuPone are joining the cast of American Horror Story: Coven, the witch-themed third chapter of FX’s hit spookfest.

She joins returning AHS fixtures Lily Rabe, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Frances Conroy and Taissa Farmiga, in addition to fellow newbies Gabourey Sidibe and Oscar winner Kathy Bates.

Coven will mark the first time AHS will go on the road and shoot on location. (The Harmon House and asylum interiors of Seasons 1 and 2 were sets on a studio.) “The fun thing is researching what are the really haunted places in America, and we have a couple doozy locales,” Murphy revealed at Paley Fest last month.

And while the name Coven implies a central storyline pertaining to witches, Murphy noted that the scares will come from a variety of sources. “It’s about a lot of things,” he added.

Murphy had also previously stated that the new season will be “more historical in nature” and take place in modern day. But just like past seasons, we will see different “time periods” and “there [will] also be different cities.” Bates and Lange, meanwhile, will portray best friends-turned-arch enemies.

  1. Maki says:

Will there be any Male cast members beside Evan!? I mean I like him, but that isn’t enough! Some demons, worlacks, something. . .
But either way nice additions to the cast!

  2. Summer says:

Of course it’s “about a lot of things”. This is why he can’t ever keep any of his plotlines in order.

  3. Cher says:

I just hope poor Evan doesn’t have to go through hell this time.

  4. Michele says:

    Bring back Zachary Quinto too!

  5. Cherry says:

Bring back Azura Skye and Chloe Sevigny :(

  6. Mark says:

Patti Lupone. Might there be more singing this season?

  7. Mike says:

In dissapointed Quinto is not returning, he was one of my favorite parts of season 2.

  8. lisa says:

The star power in this years cast is already unbelievable. Definitely going to be the best season yet

  9. Jon says:

I hear Ellen Barkin is free now, maybe she can be added to the cast?

  10. Analog says:

Hoping Evan Peters gets naked again.

  11. Carlos says:

He needs to cast Susan Lucci

  12. Rashad says:

Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates AND Angela Bassett!!! Season 3 is gonna be EPIC!

  13. Cherry says:

I hope Angela Bassett is some bad-ass witch doctor or something. I’d love to see her be a threat to Kathy and Jessica.

  14. Jared says:

AHS by far has one of the most solid casts in television period.

  15. Thomas Lamme says:

PLEASE let the plot lines for this season be coherent! ASYLUM was disappointing because it was all over the map.: aliens, nazis, monsters, possession, catholic guilt. The first season was GREAT! It knew what it was to be about, not changing the characters to fit what many different writers wanted. BE a good season or BE GONE!

  16. Helena says:

I hope Ryan Murphy knows what he’s doing with these characters. He does tend to waste talent. For example, 3/4 of the cast of Glee.

  17. darcy the slutty twin says:

I hope Angela Bassett only appears in one episode. I’d hate for her talents to be wasted in a muddled, pretentious and ridiculous Ryan Murphy piece of crappe. Infantata? Puh-leeze!

  18. Crimson and Clover says:

AHS is the best television show to hit since Twin Peaks. And for the haters, it’s this simple. Either you get it, or you don’t. And if you don’t, simply turn the channel.
