TVLine Items: Shameless Amy Smart, Snubbed Betty White, and Other TV News to Know

Showtime’s already engaging Shameless just inched up even higher on my must-watch list with the addition of Amy Smart.

An alum of such TV shows as Smith and Felicity, Smart will play Jasmine, a neighborhood pal of Fiona’s who “is a little bit pushy and sexy,” AOL TV reports. Smart will first surface in the final two episodes of the series’ freshman season. Yeah, you heard me, boys: Emmy Rossum and Amy Smart. And I thought my Twitter wallpaper was nice.

What else is transpiring in TV land? Well….

* Charlie Sheen could be done with his at-home rehab (?!) as early as next month, TMZ reports. If so, the producers of CBS’ Two and a Half Men would be able to make up the two “missed” episodes, so no one loses a paycheck.

* Although a February sweeps two-parter for Hot In Cleveland finds Betty White‘s Elka trekking to L.A. to hunt down Robert Redford, the veteran actor has regretfully turned down a cameo on the sitcom. “We tried desperately to get him,” Cleveland creator Suzanne Martin told TV Guide Magazine.

* NBC has tapped Carson Daly to host The Voice, its competitive singing series premiering this spring.

* NBC will present Saturday Night Live Backstage, a behind-the-scenes special highlighting untold stories of auditions, censorship and more, on Sunday, February 20, from 9 to 11 pm..

* And speaking of SNL, here are the promos making rounds featuring this weekend’s host, Dana Carvey. All together now: “Well isn’t this special?”
