TVLine Items: Debra Messing Visits SVU, And Other TV News To Know

What do you get when you mix a feisty redhead with a controversial, yet equally well-coiffed, cable news crime fighter?

It’s Debra Messing as a Nancy Grace knock-off, of course!

Come February, that’s exactly what fans of the funnygal will get on Law & Order: SVU. Messing is set to stop by the series in time for sweeps as a loudmouthed, pedophile-hunting TV journo who ends up needing Detective Benson’s (Mariska Hargitay) protection, says TV Guide Magazine.

But that’s not all. Here’s everything else you need to know about TV today…

• Sorry, celebs, but TMZ is here to stay — at least through the 2013-14 TV season. Warner Bros. has renewed the syndicated tabloid series for three years.

Adam Busch (aka Warren from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, aka the geek skinned by Willow the Witch) will pop up on Grey’s Anatomy later this month, E! Online reports. Busch will play a first-year resident shadowing Dr. Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh).

Jersey Shore‘s Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi will join late night curmudgeon David Letterman on Monday, January 10 to present The Late Show‘s Top Ten List.

Modern Family lovebirds Eric Stonestreet (Cameron) and Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Mitchell) have been tapped to co-host the Writers Guild Awards’ West Coast ceremony on February 5, 2011.

• Score one for Team Blue! Per The Hollywood Reporter, a New York appeals court tossed a $1.4 million FCC fine levied against ABC and several of its affiliates nearly a decade after a 2003 episode of cop drama NYPD Blue showed the rear end of series star Charlotte Ross on air.
