Sunday Ratings: 60 Minutes Goes Low, Magnum P.I. and CMT Awards Grow
In the latest TV ratings, CBS’ 60 Minutes slipped yet still clocked in with Sunday’s biggest audience, while ABC’s American Idol was tops in the demo.
CBS | 60 Minutes drew 6.7 million total viewers and a 0.3 demo rating, marking its second-smallest audience of the season and a demo low, but on par (at least in total viewers) with recent airings that didn’t enjoy a sports lead-in. Leading out of that, the CMT Music Awards (5.4 mil/0.6) were up in audience (to an all-time high) and steady in the demo vs. last year’s inaugural CBS telecast. Final ratings for the awards show, including out-of-home viewing, are projected to hit 5.7 million total viewers.
NBC | Magnum P.I. (3.5 mil/0.3) ended a four-week viewership slide and also rose a tenth in the demo. The Blacklist (2 mil/0.2) was steady.
ABC | AFV (4.6 mil/0.5) ticked up, American Idol (4.8 mil/0.7, read recap) dropped some eyeballs but was steady in the demo, and The Company You Keep (2.2 mil/0.2) matched its demo low.
FOX | Once again leading out of reruns and such, HouseBroken (570K/0.1) dipped in both measures from last week’s season opener.

Mark is a longtime friend and peer. I know him well. My data comes not from PI but Nielsen and, in instances of delayed starts/scrambled numbers, the networks directly (for maximum clarity). But yes, Marc is awesome, great to meet a fellow admirer!

I normally watch 60 Minutes every week and boycotted it for exactly this reason. Not sure I’ll be back next week either.

Cronkite is rolling in his grave at what CBS News has become
Cronkite was a liberal journalist who admitted in his autobiography to shaping what and how he reported news to fit his political leanings. So…he’s probably just fine with CBS News today.
1. Cronkite was a liberal. Even an old school conservative couldn’t stomach MTG.
2. There is a difference between shaping and outright “space laser”, “peach tree dish” lies and harassment that MTG does.
3. Cronkite would have confronted her, not let the crazy pass as if it’s true.

Agreed! It was a great episode. I’m glad to see it did well last night. I just chalked last week’s ratings up to March Madness.

CMT Music Awards in Austin was fantastic. For those that love country, it was music to our ears. Jelly Roll – where did you come from? Darius Rucker and the Black Crowes WOW! Kane Bown and his wife – beautiful song. Just how can Shania Twain look like she’s still 30? And for those of you who love diversity, you would have been pleased, too.

First CBS hired Mike Mulvaney as a political consultant and then they genuflect to the disgusting **** that is MTG. It’s now very apparent as to why Anderson Cooper finally exited 60 Minutes to launch his new interview series. I most decidedly did not/would never waste a single second on trashy MTG. Nauseating.
CBS should be ashamed to give air time to this nut job and insurrection proponent. Sickening person.

It will be interesting to see whether this has a longterm effect on their regular viewership. The show was known for integrity and tough journalism but that puss piece was the very opposite of what the show’s reputation was built on.
