Why Women Kill Renewed for Season 2, to Focus on New Characters
CBS All Access will continue to explore Why Women Kill — albeit with a different set of characters.
Marc Cherry’s anthological dramedy has been picked up for Season 2 less than 24 hours ahead of its Season 1 finale, which is set to stream on Thursday. The second season of episodes will “follow a new set of characters dealing with acts of betrayal,” according the official release.
Season 1 of Why Women Kill follows the lives of three women living in three different decades: a housewife in the ’60s (played by Once Upon a Time‘s Ginnifer Goodwin), a socialite in the ’80s (Elementary‘s Lucy Liu) and a lawyer in 2019 (The Good Place‘s Kirby Howell-Baptiste), each dealing with infidelity in their marriages. Sam Jaeger (Parenthood), Jack Davenport (Smash) and Reid Scott (Veep) play their respective husbands.
“Why Women Kill has had a phenomenal first season,” Julie McNamara, CBS All Access’ EVP of Original Content, said in a statement. “Under the creative direction of Marc Cherry and the incredible performances of the cast, the series has become one of our most streamed original series. We look forward to bringing fans even more of this wonderfully soapy dramedy in its second season and can’t wait to see what themes Marc explores next.”
In Thursday’s finale, titled “Kill Me as if It Were the Last Time,” Beth Ann devises a plan for revenge after learning the shocking truth about her daughter’s death, Simone’s commitment to Karl is tested, and Taylor and Eli attempt to focus on their love story now that Jade is out of the picture.

Yay! Loved this first season. Will the cast return to play these new characters, or will it be an entire new cast?
Coming from a big Marc Cherry fan who watched DH religiously, I don’t think he broke that much ground with this recent series and I didn’t find the writing as strong as it used to be but I still really fell in love with it. He builds these worlds so well and it’s also a testament to the electricity that Lucy brought to her character and Kirby as well. I really hope they’ll be brought back to play new characters AHS style. Can’t wait for the finale tomorrow! It’s always nice watching a finale knowing in advance that another season is on the way.
It’s interesting you say that because I don’t think the writing on DH was all that strong either. Some of the arcs for Susan and Bree were just baffling (the sex camming? bree falling for george?). That being said, I agree that this cast is the strength of this series and Lucy’s star shines the brightest. It’s always so much fun watching Simone luxuriate in her wealth and trade barbs with Karl.

ahh, such great news!! i love this show so much, though it won’t be the same if Lucy Liu isn’t returning. Btw, TV Line: I don’t think Liu needs an introduction. She’s known for so much more than just Elementary and is clearly the star of this show…

I cannot remember the last time I was this excited for a season finale. I think O have 2 of the murders figured out, but am not sure about the third.

Beautifully written Plot. Visually perfect for the eras it portrayed. Acting was phenomenal! Can’t wait to see what Marc Cherry comes up with next. Finally a series that is totally entertaining and can take one’s mind off of every day stress. Loved it!

i loooovvved why women kill. Lucy Lui, Ginnifer Goodwin and also Leo Howard were over the top fantastic. I cried at the ending. It was amazing. Lucy Lui is a Queen. I loved her sass. Great job to Marc Cherry I can׳t wait to see the next season as well as the above three in films and movies
We so enjoyed the show. The finale was so cleverly done. Happy to hear it’s coming back. Wish the same cast were too. But I’m sure the new cast will be just as good.
I absolutely loved tuning into this show each week!!! This was new and fresh and unlike anything on the air!!! So happy that they picked up a new season, but I will miss the current actors/characters… Lucy was devine…so sassy :) and Eli what a hunk…but Beth Ann was by far my favorite…I felt the most for her. Mad props to Marc Cherry and the whole gang. Original content nowadays is an impossible feat…or so I thought…so kudos
