We’ve got questions, and you’ve (maybe) got answers! With another week of TV gone by, we’re lobbing queries left and right about lotsa shows including The Rookie, Law & Order: Organized Crime, The Voice, The Conners and more!
1 | Does Sweet Tooth‘s General Abbot remind anyone else of Dr. Robotnik from Sonic the Hedgehog? Also, does Gus have some magical connection with animals he doesn’t know about yet? Why else would the herd of bison stampede around him?
2 | Why was Farmer Wants a Wife‘s Allen at the White House Correspondents Dinner? Does he somehow end up with D.C. lobbyist Kylie from Landon’s pod?!?!
3 | On Fatal Attraction, isn’t Alex’s downtown L.A. loft impossibly big for a low-level legal aide?
4 | Did Succession serve up its biggest surprise yet by actually giving Kendall a win for once? Does Tom still not know that Shiv is pregnant, even though they just apparently had sex? And did you have to run to find a dictionary to look up the word “interregnum” after Gerri used it in her fight with Roman?
5 | Which of rookie Voice coach Chance the Rapper’s two bungles was bigger: letting Blake Shelton steal NOIVAS in the Battles or eliminating Kala Banham in the Playoffs?
6 | During All American, how relieved were you to hear Kaycee being practical about her sister Jaymee’s teenage pregnancy, after The Vortex’s reactions were weirdly, uniformly thrilled?
7 | Did Bob Hearts Abishola‘s writers know when Monday’s episode would be airing, or was it purely coincidence that Bob told stepson Dele that he looked Met Gala-ready in his church clothes?
8 | On NCIS: Hawaii, wouldn’t catching an adult male leaping from a balcony have, maybe, dislocated Jesse’s shoulder? Or at least make him audibly groan? Also, was it pure coincidence that Jane and NCIS‘ Jessica entertained Wonder Woman fantasies on the same night?
9 | In A Small Light, how long did it take you to realize that certain key details — like the antisemitic graffiti or the word on Margot’s yellow star — were in English, not Dutch?
10 | Seeing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 costar Nathan Fillion wearing this shirt in The Rookie‘s season finale, we have to ask: Has Disney corporate synergy reached a new level of sledgehammer-ness? (At least The Conners‘ Ben and Mark aren’t actually in the movie!) And when Bradford and Chen were approached by the mob of marauders, why didn’t they make like John Reese and try taking out a few kneecaps versus fruitlessly fire into their riot shields?
11 | As TVLine reader Eric asks, could James be Will Trent‘s father? He didn’t exactly say he wasn’t….
12 | Now that the Menendez brothers have been announced as the subject of Monster Season 2 on Netflix, which of Ryan Murphy’s go-to actors do you suspect will play Lyle and Erik?
13 | So, wait a second: Ted Lasso‘s Isaac was adamant that his teammates delete nude photos of women from their phones, but then felt comfortable grabbing Colin’s phone from him to look at the nude photos in his camera roll?
14 | Was any Schmigadoon! parody in Season 2 less subtle than Jaime Camil’s brief, Rocky Horror-inspired number in Wednesday’s finale?
15 | While it’s great to see The Flash (finally) introduce Cobalt Blue, wasn’t that subplot a bit muddled, coming as it did amid the gripping “full circle” moment for Barry, Eobard and Nora’s murder? And is it odd that it took the show nine whole years to discover s-e-x (via Chester/Allegra)?
16 | Was it wishful thinking on The Conners‘ part to close out Season 5 with the song “See You in September” by The Happenings, when a writers’ strike was looming?
17 | Were you hoping The Goldbergs would somehow reunite Barry and Lainey in the series finale?
18 | Who else caught that look Not Dead Yet‘s Edward gave Nell at the end of the finale? Have you also been waiting for it since the series premiere?
19 | Going into A Million Little Things’ series finale, did you have any hope of Gary’s survival? And if so, at which point during the hour was it dashed?
20 | On Chicago P.D., given that Atwater’s relationship with his dad is on the mend, are you hoping to see more of Lew next season?
21 | What are the chances that Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul’s It’s Always Sunny episode isn’t just one big commercial for their Dos Hombres mezcal line?
22 | If Survivor‘s Danny doesn’t pull out an immunity win next week, will he be next on the chopping block? And with only seven players left, who do you think is best lined up to win the million?
23 | Queen Charlotte fans, were you expecting the Ton to be integrated so quickly in the series? And how cool was it to see Agatha become Lady Danbury right before our eyes? But didn’t it feel like the second timeline, with the older characters, was unnecessary? Also, did you have a difficult time reconciling the two vastly different versions of Charlotte?
24 | Did you shed a tear when Call Me Kat‘s Cheyenne Jackson revealed the late Leslie Jordan on his undershirt during the finale’s closing credits/goodbyes?
25 | Which of Ed Sheeran‘s many (many!) earwormy songs wouldn’t leave your head after watching even just one episode of his Disney+ docuseries?
26 | Is the Law & Order franchise’s final indignity to the perennially put-upon Kathy Stabler that, even when Stabler hallucinated her in this week’s Organized Crime, she was wearing the hospital gown she died in? Couldn’t they have at least zhushed her up a little in the afterlife?
27 | Who wants to tell Ultimate Girls Trip‘s Gizelle Bryant that there are plenty of Clase Azul Reposado Tequila bottles just laying around the set of The Other Two?
28 | Multiple seasons of Departure, then Snowpiercer, and now Hijack… When did Archie Panjabi‘s specialty become transportation-related thrillers?
Hit the comments with your answers — and any other Qs you care to share!
20- Yes. Plus, give the man a girlfriend please.
And not Upton (because the writers will try to foist another in-house relationship on us if they could)
1. Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik probably inspired Abbot’s look.
The look between nell and the roommate wasn’t the important one to me – it was the one the barowner gave – she knows what’s going on….
I gave up on the goldbergs when they revealed lainey wasn’t an actual goldberg…lost all authenticity to me
Could tv shows stop casting ‘well known actors’ casuse if you didn’t know who the serial killer was on will trent from the moment he showed up on screen – you weren’t paying attention – run a blood test – there was a lot on will’s hands
On Chicago PD, hope they give Attwater and Morales more screen time next season. Their storylines are so much more interesting than Haley or Kim/Adam and it would breath some much needed new life into the show that is starting to feel a little stale.
I think the Guardians of the Galaxy shirt on The Rookie is more about the fact that Nathan Fillion is really close friends with James Gunn. I think he just wanted to shout out his friend more than corporate synergy.
It feels more a wink and a nod by Fillion to James Gunn’s final outing more than a promotion on a show who’s audience skews older and is definitely not a targeted demographic for Marvel let alone the Guardians of The Galaxy films.
Why not both?
Regardless, I can get way more behind a simple t-shirt than how heavy handed the Disney references were in the Halloween episode.
Or even worse… that super weird Avatar call they tried to shoehorn in.
Nolan’s t-shirt was nothing.
Yeah, I think it was more a Nathan Fillion thing than a Disney thing. He would have still done it if it were any other movie that he’s in done at a different studio.
10. Not at all. Nathan has been in very guardians movie I believe. Definitely the first. And he’s good friends with the director. I thought it was a cool little nod on release week. Especially since his cameo in this new one was a surprise.
Another thing about this Conners was when Dan was talking to Louise about the family not having special graduations, he didn’t mention Darlene, even though she went to art school without graduating from high school that we never saw her graduate from. But what about DJ, didn’t he eventually graduate from high school before he joined the army?
Shhh, we don’t talk about DJ!
That’s hilarious considering that I did a double take when Louise mentioned something about DJ, only to realize she was talking about an entertainer.
Glad the series wrapped. Maybe John Goodman can call his buddy Dan Ackroyd and get the Blues Brothers back together.
It’s not over. It was just the season finale.
I thought I’d read somewhere this was the end… or that next Season was ordered with the express intent that IT would be the Final Season.
Sara Gilbert has expressed that she wants to know when it’s the end so they can do a proper ending. It’s rumored that season 6 could be the final season. Just checked the Renewal Score Card and for The Conners, it reads as follows:
The Conners: Season 5 ended May 3. Season 6 renewal is a sure thing.
#17 (Goldbergs) – Please correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t Adam say in voice over a few seasons ago that Barry and Lainey ultimately end up together? Maybe I imagined it.
I think we have to assume that Barry and Joanne don’t last, because he dated Lainey again in 1980-something, per “Schooled.”
1990-something, but Lainey and Barry broke up again so that Lainey could “realize” she was in love with the other teacher. I don’t remember his name anymore. Both shows basically botched Barry’s endgame. Lol.
10-Rookie – How did the masked men know that Celina & Aaron were going to walk down that alley? And why did they go into a dark alley for noises that sounded like a cat? And why would they ever separate? And isn’t it funny how Liseth Chavez got more airtime as a guest star on the Rookie this season than she did as a regular on Chicago PD?
11-Will Trent – I guess people who have read the books probably already know the answer to that question?
16-Conners – Also wishful since they haven’t been renewed yet
17-Goldbergs – So much wrong with that finale, where to begin? Adam and Carmen, nope. Barry and Joanne, yuck. No mention of NYU or film school? I get that they didn’t get proper notice about the series ending, but seriously, did they never consider it?
18-Not Dead Yet – Please no. I don’t want to see a Nell/Edward ship.
22-Survivor – Lauren and Jaime are pretty much insignificant at this point, Danny and Carson seem to be on borrowed time. That leaves Yam-Yam, Carolyn and Heidi. Somehow I think Heidi would prevail in that trio, but the focus has been on Yam-Yam and Carolyn.
24-Call Me Kat – I wonder if he’s been wearing that ever since Leslie died?
17. Adam got an acceptance letter to NYU last week. He asked Carmen to move to NY with him but eventually pulled back. Bev encouraged his paranoia so he got mad at her & it caused her to contact all his exes to ask if she interfered as much as Adam accused her of. In the end Erica set Adam straight by telling him he’s an adult and he chose to listen to Bev’s advice. That’s on him. He apologized and then Bev hung out with all his exes after they aired their grievances with her and the episode ended. I don’t know exactly when Adam planned to leave but he was going to NYU so they did mention it in the episode before the finale.
10. Between that and what the article pointed out, it starts to make me wonder if the writers are worth any more money/benefits if this is the crap they churn out.
No Bupkis questions? I was expecting a meta reference with Brad Garrett in the Everybody Loves Raymond scene.
23. I am halfway through right now, and I am not sure of the exact point of the “current” story either, right now I am thinking it is to give some more depth to Brimsley since we only see him about half the time we see Charlotte in the main show which is usually only in two episodes or to make sure they have Violet and Agatha having no barriers between them because a close friendship between the two might be very important next season? Because, otherwise, like to my very American ears, Charlotte’s issue with an heir seems silly, she has like nine or ten sons, and then also, like historically I know there are like two between George and Victoria, but she’s the next monarch of note and she isn’t actually born yet in the main Bridgerton time. Of course, at this point, I am not sure why we are checking in on Violet in the past unless the show just wants to point out one issue with why she hadn’t already been friends with Agatha is she is significantly younger than her but that its no wonder she had a romance based relationship because I think her father would put her foot down on that one no matter what her mother said. But it might also be interesting if he maybe did have a bit of a side romance with Agatha when he’s probably the one there for her and will also perceive that she couldn’t care less about her dead husband.
#18: Not Dead Yet. I saw the look – and so did Cricket! Yep, from Edward’s impassioned “you’re not you around him” speech to the look at her at the end, Edward is into Nell… I’m all for it.
(see you in an hour, post of mine that for some reason is on a time-delay here!)
18. An Edward/Nell relationship has a lot of story possibilities, all right. Not Dead Yet has really grown on me, love Gina. Hope it gets a Season 2.
26. On L and O OC–not just the handling of Kathy, this script, despite the solid story premise, was BAD. And Elliott taking his elderly, ailing mother to a crime scene? Really?
26. Stabler hallucinating Kathy was just WEIRD. And so completely pointless, regardless of what she was wearing.
Ditto Stabler taking his mother to a crime scene. Completely out of character.
Totally agree with CB, story idea was good, script almost as gruesome as the head spinning in the dryer.
26. For the love of the Goddess – please, no more Kathy Stabler!! I hate her more than any other TV character (with Rusty’s biological mother on The Closer running a very near second!) I waited too many years hoping for Kathy’s demise so now I want to enjoy it without any ghostly returns!
** Major Crimes not The Closer
With regards to #5….I think not choosing Kala was the bigger mistake. At least Noivas is still on the show, even if he IS on someone else’s team. But to not have Kala on at all? THAT is a shame.
Regarding Noivas, I think Chance already said that he wanted Noivas to have the best chance to win and he thought that would be on Blake’s team. The night Blake stole him, it seemed like a generous move, not a mistake. And, this week Chance basically “confessed” that he thought Noivas could win it all, but that he needed to be on Blake’s team to do so. Is that a “bungle” on his part? Maybe. It’s certainly a sign that he doesn’t have a killer instinct for winning. Meanwhile, I think Chance has been giving us the best-arranged performances with the team he has left. So maybe he’s comfortable with the high probability that Blake is going to win the season and is happy to just help singers make great music while he can.
1. Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik probably inspired Abbot’s look.
12. Finn Wittrock/Wes Bentley. I would put good money on this.
Due to the writer’s strike, is it possible that some of the already filmed but cancelled series will finally find homes (like Snowpiercer’s final season)?
Not impossible.
Farmer Doesn’t Really Seem Interested In a Wife has really disappointed me this season, a rare miss (for me) in the usually-fun Fox dating show genre. I suspect they were trying to piggyback off Kurt’s popularity from Joe Millionaire…but the whole season has been cringe. The “visit the family” episode this week was just downright painful, lol. Just thought I’d throw this all out.
The takeaway I got this week is that none of the farmers seem to have picked the right women.
“Who else caught that look Not Dead Yet‘s Edward gave Nell at the end of the finale? Have you also been waiting for it since the series premiere?”
Not sure what you’re talking about. I thought they were setting up a potential interest between him and Nell’s boss. That would make a bit more sense. Nell is nothing like Edward and he drives her insane.
22) Danny should’ve been voted out this week. If he makes it to final three then I don’t see him winning. The people getting the most positive edits are Carolyn, Carson and Yam Yam. I don’t see Heidi, Lauren or Jamie winning, although I didn’t think Gabler had a chance and look what happened to him! I’m hoping for a feel-good ending with Carolyn or Yam Yam winning (and I’d be ok if Carson won, but his story isn’t as endearing).
11. I went to a darker place and thought Nina’s brother mention by James was not a one off comment if you know what I mean. They could also easily take some DNA from James at this point to find out.
23. I liked the current timeline in regards to Charlotte. It shows that she lost a bit of herself and wasn’t loving as a mother and we got to meet the children of George and Charlotte. But honestly, they could’ve left ALL the Violet stuff out after what they did with her father. Now it’s going to be a thing in S3 of Bridgerton.
*Lucy, not Nina lol.
Nina?
Not sure anyone could do a subtle parody of Franken Furter.
13) No, he wasn’t trying to look at the pictures, he was trying to delete them. Of course he had to see them to do that, but it’s not like he was planning on lingering.
15) Barry and Iris had awkward sex scenes all over the place a few seasons ago. I can’t remember what the plot reason was but it happened in like 3 or 4 episodes.
26. Was Olivia’s comment about partners blindly following and trusting each other a bit hypocritical considering her and Elliott’s relationship?
18: Yep. I seen it a mile away.
As a retired Police Officer l was disappointed that in the Rookie-season finale, that the two Officers being chased by the group of masked terrorists, didn’t shoot them in the lower legs and feet. I was trained that with some perps using body armor now, you can disable anybody by shooting them in the legs and feet!
Oh well, it’s just TV fiction!
